Maybe you should just make more Tier One schools.

The top 10% program greatly assists in the education of Texans and provides opportunities not found elsewhere in the Nation.

UT Austin reducing the number of incoming freshmen might be indicitive of their inablity to handle the numbers, because they get THE MONEY they need to be and maintain their Tier-One status.

Since when are public universities 'educational boutiques'? They are PUBLIC INSTITUTIONS.

Why the heck would anyone want to be an undergraduate at UT Austin, anyway? The classes have as many as 500 students in them (perhaps more), are often taught on huge screens because there are too many students for their to be a real classroom format, graduation dates are extended because students cannot get the classes they need, and professors are all but unknown to students. There are many better alternatives if you want to actually learn anything. The school has a great reputation but it is because of its GRADUATE and PROFESSIONAL schools. Finally, if we talk about diversity, we need to include not only racial/ethnic diversity, but also socioeconomic diversity, life experience diversity, talent diversity etc. etc. It is really time to rethink this entire mega-university thing and diversity. Test scores and class rank tell part of the story, but there is a lot more to every kid and if UT Austin wants to consider itself (along with A&M) the flagship university of the state, it should take the time to get to know each kid through essays, recommendations etc. etc. and completely forget this percentage thing. Oh, but then each student would have to be considered special and not just some number, and then they might start complaining about the huge classes and unavailable courses, and then we might actually have to pay attention to undergrads, and then...www.dimequecrees.com

Setting the bar a little higher to top 8% is a good move that will ensure that Mack Brown can get the star power athletes he needs for another national championship. Great move on the part of the authors of this bill. Hook 'em horns.

Daily Horoscope for December 31

Leo

There's an erratic quality to the day, thanks to the Full Moon in emotional Cancer, combined with a lunar eclipse. Loved ones are likely to behave in ways you hadn't counted on. The only way to cope with this is to be as flexible as possible. Someone might change an arrangement at the eleventh hour so you have to think on your feet, or others may be determined to do their own thing even though it doesn't suit you. Get any arguments out of the way quickly so you can enjoy your New Year's Eve celebrations with a glad heart.
