I just wanted to see if anyone else has had similar run-ins with Wentzville Police. I've been stopped five times by WPD, and none of them were for actually breaking a law. I have not been cited or arrested in any of these stops. The officers generally question me, search me, run my name, and let me go. Some officers have been more cordial than others. Officer Mike Mainieri was the bully of the bunch.

What were you doing ? what were you driving and where we're you and who were you with? Do you have a record and what time of night? All of these come into play.

I have had that problem more than once. I have an old S10 for my daily commuter vehical. Its dirty and has more rust than metal, but its legal with no equipment violations.

I have been pulled over twice for a dirty license plate, and once for a license plate light being out. None of these stops ever resulted in a ticket. They just profiled me based on my work truck.

I have also had an issue. This was a year or two ago (when we as Americans, could still purchase cold medicine legally) and I purchased a box of Mucinex D and a box of Sudafed for colds that both my husband and I had. I was pulled over and accused of producing meth. They searched my vehicle and me. I believe one of the officers said that Walgreens called them about someone buying 2 boxes of cold medicine. There was also something mentioned about a tip and after everything went down an undercover officer told me I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. I'm young, fit, female, my car is clean and fairly new, and I was in business attire. Probably not high on "suspiciousness" except for the fact I bought cold medicine. All that is fine, I really don't mind.

What I minded was the verbal attack I received from one of the officers. If I had been of more sound mind I would have got his name, but unfortuantley it was dark, I had been at work in St. Louis for 12 hours, sick and I was standing outside in heels without my coat in the cold. Surrounded by 6 cop cars with flashing lights, spotlights and numerous cops. Needless to say I was a bit overwhelmed. I REALLY wish I had gotten that officers name. He repeatedly accused me of making and selling meth, yelling at me and shaking his head.

After I was "released" and allowed to get back into my car and leave the parking lot I called my husband to let him know what had happened. He then called the police department as he wished to file a complaint upon one of the officers. He requested the names of who pulled me over and who was driving the SUV that evening, as that is the cop that verbally accosted me. He was told he couldn't file any complaints and they hung up on him. TWICE. He called back a third time, quite upset at being hung up on by one of government entities and was told that they would charge him!

I understand that legally buying two boxes of cold medicine MAY have been suspicios, if they were expecting someone to be doing just that on a tip. I get it. So ok, pull me over, briefly search my vehicle, I'm kind of ok with that. Could do without it as if they ran my license I have NOTHING - there isn't even a speeding ticket on my record. So should my car really have been searched? But as I said, that is not the complaint.

The complaint was the jerk who yelled at me, without any proof of me doing ANYTHING wrong. Unless it's illegal to drive down the road with legally purchased cold medicine... If I EVER get pulled over in Wentzville again I will immediatley start recording the entire situation and I WILL get the names of every officer there.

There is an additonal complaint in the fact that my husband was not allowed to file a complaint. Really? Our tax dollars pay for this government entity. We were going to push the issue, but seriously, I drive in Wentzville every day. I did not want my car to be targeted and have to deal with this nonsense even more. Yes, that's right. We aren't in Mayberry. Instead of trusting the police, I am scare of them.

There probably are just some "bad seeds" but I would be willing to bet there are more bad than good.

What an awful experience.

i lived in wentzville and was having problems with the police there i woke up one morning and called the police to get my daughter because the mother didnt show up with her as agreed on our custody i was arrested for trespassing and needless to say i didnt get my daughter they told me my custody papers were not legal a week later after the police showed up at my work when i didnt give my daughter back to the mother and told me if i didnt come up with her they were charging me with parental kidnapping. i told them that i was told the custody papers were not legal and if the mother didnt have to follow them neither did i... they left for a little then started calling me every 5 minutes at work. when i left work there was two wentzville police officers in the parking lot that followed me over three miles so i pulled into a neighborhood to get away and when i was exiting the neighborhood they pulled me over for expired plates and told me since the vin number wasnt raised up on my car they were giving me a ticket for no insurance even though i had valid papers the next day i went upstairs and a cop was sitting outside my apartment waiting for me to go outside and told me to put my hands behind my back i was under arrest i did nothing wrong so i told him no im not and i ran im going after the wentzville police in a harassment suit since i dont live there anymore. and im not the only one pressing charges since they caused emotional distress on everyone in the household and friends that had been there... they gave my grandmother that is handicapped and 70 years old a ticket for parking in a handicapped spot even though her tag was in the widow and the guy that was helping us move was pulled over after leaving the apartment for a loud muffler they said someone called the...he would have done been back at his house by the time you got to mine if someone called them.. wentzville police are crooked cops that will lie to you and set you up just to get what they want they dont care how many civil rights they have to break cause nobody thinks they can ever win this is not the only incident that the police have harassed people in wentzville and it definately wont be the last

all of you need to call the highway patrol and file complaints, they will take care of them, theres always a few bad cops on every force, they need weeded out, we have the same prob here in warren co, the sheriffs dept is pretty decent, but our city cops,a few of them do the same thing everyone mentioned above, keep complaining and file lawsuits, you cant get pulled over without probable cause. get this stopped before more innocent people get in the system

James, your're an idiot the Highway Patrol does not receive, condemn or investigate complaints against police officers. If an individual has a complaint against an officer, start first at the Departmrnt level. Stopping someone for a traffic violation does not constitute a violation a persons liberty or freedom.
Read the complaints of those writing, they were ALL GUILTY of an infraction ( traffic violation)

concerned, your the idiot, departments cant investigate thier own department if one of thier own commited a crime, wich harassing someone for no reason is a crime, call troop c,and i promise they will take care of it, sounds like "concernrd" is one of the sleazy cops in question, lol

James repeat, your not understanding the problem, MSHP can't investigate the incident .The MSHP is not a police agency that investigates other agency policy or procedure.

they have departments that handle that, there are more than patrolman, theres 3 or for units that just do investigations,in these cases, one is harassment, and another is you have to have probable cause to stop someone, filing a complaint with the dept that is harassing people is a waste of time,of course if several people go to the chief, and board meetings with the same story, someone may get fired, but im sure it wouldnt take long to be replaced with some other dumbass

Who has departments that investigate harassment? The Highway Patrol does not have a unit that investigates that., period.
Judge Joe Brown

You both are right to an extent. You should follow order first, consult department cheif. He/She sould investigate and follow-up with you. Give him/her 10-14 days. If you do not get follow up, contact the MSHP. They will direct you to the Harassment unit. It does exist, but they will not go further unless you made a formal complaint with the departments cheif. Just saying...

" wearing their safety devices". Thanks for the quality reporting Patch- I've never seen a driver wearing a life vest on 70 before- and to imagine three of those people wearing life jackets crashed into one another.

What are you talking about?

To respond to the original post, I've had no problems with Wentzville Police. Unless they're flagrantly violating your rights, I'd politely cooperate with them. Their job isn't easy, and most of them are good people just trying to keep the streets clean. I have had conversations with Officer Mainieri, and I get the impression that he is a douchebag with a badge and a gun. Every department has one.
