Are the aldermen nuts or what. I live next door to pit bulls and if they relax the law my kids won't be able to play outside anymore. Shame on these foolish aldermen. I AM MAD AT YOU.

They should really not single-out just one breed of dog, but rather describe dogs with dangerous propensities. As it is, many dangerous dogs are not prohibited, and many sweet bulldogs are blamed for the vicious ones. There is nothing inherently aggressive in the breeds called "pit bulls". It is their owners who want them to be that way who train them, and they are very smart dogs that want to please their masters. Until he died, my dad had a female Staffordshire Terrier who was the lovingest creature on Earth, because he raised her that way. You would be pleased to have had her in your neighborhood, honestly.

I disagree with you. This pit bull next door has gone through glass windows to try and attach someone walking down the street. Having it muzzled is that only thing that makes me feel safe. By the way, pit bulls are used most of the time at dog fights. Why don't you google pit bull bites and see the damage they can do because of the shape of their jaw line. I disagree with the aldermen relaxing the law and they will not get my vote on re-election.

Pitbulls need to be controlled to protect the public. read this information http://www.dogsbite.org/dog-bite-statistics.p... . It shows definitive evidence that pitbulls are by far the most agressive dog breed that attacks humans.

As for the owners who want to keep their dogs but not take the required measure to ensure safety of the public, they need to be held responsible. An attack from a dog requires jail time, seroius injuries resulting require a minimum of 2 years adn the dog put down immediately after the attack. A death from a dog attack needs the owner at least 15 years in jail. NO EXCEPTIONS. Then people can decide if the ownership of an attack-prone dog is worth the risk. The owner should be put at risk since he is putting innocent people at greater risk.

And yes, I own and have owned dogs my entire life. many breeds and never had one attack.

I would be more worried about a Chow than a pittie any day of the week. Chows will even turn on their owners. And Cocker Spaniels bite more than any other breed. All dogs should be controlled. If a dog is trying to break through a window to get outside, the situation with that dog needs to be addressed, but not the breed as a whole.

let's get real here. Does our current board believe the "feelings" of an animal is more important than the safety of the community. They say they are listening to us but they are only listening to barking owners. Thank goodness it is election time and time to get rid of these dumb aldermen.

Once again.......it is the owners or those who train the dogs (any breed), not the actual breed. You could train a Poodle to bite and it would, by the way, those little chihuahua dogs can be pretty mean in their own right! LOL But don't blame the breeds of dogs, it is not their fault.

Sharon8309, you are right that any dog can be trained to bite but the difference between a bite from a Chihuahua and a pit bull is not measureable. If given a choice between going into a room with a mad Chihuahua or a pit bull, you would take the Chihuahua everytime. I am furious that our Aldermen are even considering changing the laws and they will not get my vote of this.

Have you reported them? I have 2 pits and they are very sweet. I do believe it is the way they are raised just from my expierence. And in addition, the law will be changing to ANY dog bite. And with more strict penalities possible jail time for the owner. What is the difference between a rot weiler biting, a chow biting, a German shepard biting? But yet this law ONLY targets pits. That is the core issue on the problem.
