Assess property not lifestyle

Last assessment we all cooperated and let people into our private homes to be good citizens. We ended up with assessmants higher because we kept nice homes and added to the value of our neighborhoods.
If we kept lesser condition homes on the same property...lower taxes. One assessor actually stated that when questioned, while walking through a neighbor's house.
If they measure our property, run comps of recent sales in the area and base our taxes on that, it would be very objective. The assessments given out last time were not even close to resale value. Property tax should be based on property, not belongings.
Someone's personal opinion of our homes interior decor and layout determines what we pay in taxes? Appliances or cabinets that we save up to make nice for our families penalize us?
I already agreed to pay a higher tax by moving to this area. I understood that the schools are great and the neighborhood is great. At some point you are just finding ways to tax out the decent people too.
How many house are for sale locally? Or empty? Or people moving out due to taxes? It's sad that after generations here people have to move.
Our taxes went down due to the recognition of the assessment vs the economy as it pertains to real estate recently. Now quickly we are reassessed again.
We appreciate people trying to do their jobs. It's nothing personal, but many of us will not be allowing inside inspections this year. We are a great town. This is our right.
If they purposely assess us higher just to come in, when we can look up recent sales ourselves, that just proves the point and should be easily remedied by a meeting...not in our homes.
Good luck everyone. Here's to a stress free assessment.
