Amazing. I read several comments and no one has hit on the one primary fact here.

Government has no business running these kinds of entities! Had the local governments stayed where government belongs, WE wouldn't be in this position.

TTC should have been a private endeavor. Why didn't a group if private business people build the TTC? Because they all knew "the market" wouldn't support such an endeavor.

When a private business runs into financial difficulty, they raise prices, and/or reduce services, etc for financial survival. When a government has financial difficulty, as with TTC, it has limited choices. In this case, they need to raise taxes.

When WE allowed our local governments to build TTC, WE effectively told our governments WE are willing to pay this burden.

Next time a government asks if you want a stadium, arena, or concert venue, stave off your desire for quick and easy entertainment and say "not from you, Mr & Ms Government! You stay out of this!"

I sincerely applaud East Wenatchee for saying "no" to funding the Sprint Boat Races. Are the races fun? Yes. Will they bring income in "tourist" type dollars? Yes. If only 5% or 10% of the areas population attend the races should 100% of the population have taxes levied on them to support the races? NO!

Government should do government business. Let our local private businesses bring us entertainment and services, that will call for employment, and let the government get their money in standing taxes.

It's actually a very common practice for local government to own and operate these type of venues. In fact WDFW partially owns the Gorge and rakes in a lot of money for projects in the area.
