With the law suits and "protected rights" of gang members you the voter are responsible for the police not being able to do "their" job. the police have their hands tied ask them what is needed to stop the gangs. More importantly the people and peers that raise these scum are to be held accountable

quit letting juveniles off with a slap on the hand and get tighter with the sentences the judge hands out. I have seen so many kids go scott free or lite sentence because where their families are up in the community and you know what I mean Alot deals with who is who and who isn't. Monies talk. I learned that from a situation with my daughter in the 90's and not much has changed. Repeat offenders that families I call high in community standings are just slapped on the hand and lower income families kids bam locked up. Does that solve the gang violence no. Experience does and okanogan county needs to get with the gang problems and no matter what or who they are lock them up at a state facility or take them there and let them stay for a few days and they can see what the walls are about

They are too busy busting people for minor traffic violations and small amounts of marijuana. Doesn't help that Omak cops are corrupt. Other local sheriffs talk about it.

It's really sad to say that I'm glad I live in Montana now instead of my "hometown" *Omak/Okanogan* it's not like it used to be and all these gangs and shootings going on??? What the hell! very sad that a place like that has went so far down hill in such a short time.

In response to NGB, I agree we need solid role models and activities youth can be involved in that will give them some interesting to do other than hanging out, drinking and using drugs.
Okanogan, Omak area is impoverished, many youth are surrounded by substance abuse and domestic violence.
This is a very tuff problem to solve that will require work in a lot of places. We need an aggressive community outreach focused on helping our youth, not a police crack down.
The police try to help most of the time but it ends up causing resentment toward them that results in more aggression and negative behavior.
Police action comes in response to this gang/criminal behavior. The only real solution is to tackle the root of the problem. Our youth need help. Not the most priveledged youth, but the most troubled or endangered.
How can we show these kids there are good options and alternatives then help them achieve...

and how in the heck would you know what is happening here when you live in spokane, and no one could pay me to live in spokane every again, I hate even going through spokane any more, let alone live in the drive through shootings, murders, rape, vehicle theft, business theft and cops that are always happy to shoot and kill people without any reason
