I know this is an older post, but I felt compelled to respond...
All I can say is, wow! I've never seen such ignorant and simple-mindedness as I have here from hardhead and some others here.
You should be ashamed of yourselves. It's people like you that keep St. Louis from progressing. I will say this, I, without a doubt, would never live in St. Charles because of people like you that I have encountered out there. There are intelligent people who live there who are not ignorant, obviously, but there are way too many people like you who spread such filth and hate. I would never allow my sons to be around people like you.
I am a well-educated white man who came from working class parents. I paid my way through college and law school on my own. Before I moved to St. Louis and attended SLUH, I went to inner-city public schools in New York. I, as a white person, was the minority. There are good people and not-so-good people, regardless of skin color or where they happen to live.
All children should be given a chance to make something of themselves. That comes from opportunity, support, and determination. I've seen many black kids with determination who don't have opportunity and support; conversely, I've seen even more white kids who have opportunity and support, but no determination. I'd much rather have the former in my child's school.
As a metropolitan area, we need to get past the segregation and color lines and make real progress. I agree that resources should be used to fix a problem internally rather than busing students away from it, but until that happens, I'll never turn down the chance to give a child an opportunity for a good education.
Oh, and white people have ruined many, many things: native cultures and the environment come to mind immediately; and also true progress for our great city due to the same hateful, small-minded concepts expressed on this topic.
Grow up and get a life!
