What happened to Rep. Dan T Cooper? - Sincerely, Taxpayer

Having a building named after a sitting politician has become a controversy in itself. Just Google “Monuments to Me” and numerous articles support the controversy behind the motivation and means a sitting politician may use to have 24/7 advertising of his or her name on a public building. State Representative, Daniel T Cooper, R-Piedmont, represented the District 10 seat for 21 years. He was chairman of the House Ways and Means committee and he abruptly resigned in June of 2011. For the last 37 years, Dan and his father held the seat for District 10. His passion for politics does not align with his awkward ending to his political career. The Powdersville public library is named the Dan T Cooper library and it was done so with taxpayer dollars. If that building continues the “monument to me” theme, I believe taxpayers have a right to know the truth behind Daniel T. Cooper’s resignation. Someone with that much political history and passion does not abruptly quit to “spend more time with their family.” In 2008, Cooper received an honorary degree from Clemson- I believe a thorough explanation of the abrupt end to Cooper’s political career would be in the best interest of retaining credibility of those Clemson have bestowed honorary degrees to.

You're exactly right. As long as his name stays on the library (made possible by our tax dollars), A probe should be done to guarantee there were no unethical actions leading to Cooper being asked to resign.

I've wondered the same thing about Daniel T Cooper as I drive by that library. Both Clemson and the taxpayers should investigate. He may be completely clean and honest, but something doesn't sound right with the way he ended his political career. If his name is to stay on that building, we need to know the facts.

He supported open carry. Liberals probably made him go away.

Although I admire him for encouraging open carrying, that's not enough for liberals to "get rid of him." They need compelling leverage to force someone out. If his name is to stay on that library, I want to know what exactly that leverage was.

I wonder why the Upstate media hasn't done anything with this story?? Seems like a worthwhile endeavor
