I don't know Coach Gravely well but he has always seemed to me to be a competant, courteou, and well meaning man. The following is in today's Charleston paper. Good luck Coach.

W.Va. high school football coach charged in death
by The Associated Press
BECKLEY, W.Va.-- Mount View High School head football coach Leon Steven Gravely is facing charges in connection with the death of a 70-year-old man struck and killed while riding his bicycle.

A Raleigh County grand jury indicted the 42-year-old Gravely on Monday on charges of negligent homicide, reckless driving, failure to maintain control and speeding.

According to police reports, Gravely's vehicle went off the northbound lane of the Coalfields Expressway near Sophia on March 13 and struck Charles Edward Williamson.

A message left for a Leon S. Gravely in Kimball wasn't immediately returned Tuesday. Mount View is located in Welch.

Well if that's the case then why don't you or another parent who has a child that wants to be involved VOLUNTEER for the job then?

It's easy to sit back and critize someone else so instead of being a complainer, do something yourself to get the league started again.

PS....please don't take this the wrong way. If I had a child that wanted to be involved and no one else would take the initative then I would.

I don't know how he could possibly keep his mind on anything with the situation he has facing him. I know this is a good man and I really hope everything turns out for him. Try facing something like he is facing and keep your life in order. There is no way that this wasn't an accident. God bless you, Leon Gravely. I surely wouldn't want the burden this man is carrying now...and neither would anyone else. LIGHTEN UP on him ! You don't know when it will be your turn.

I am sooooo sorry to hear about the charges against him, I think he has and will suffer his entire life for this, and that should be enough. It was an ACCIDENT!

People need to lay off of him .... Don't you think he is going through enough and has so much more to come.

Good Luck, Coach Gravely!!!

You're absolutely right. Even if he is acquitted of the charges, he will carry it with him for the rest of his life. He won't need anyone to remind him of it..it will forever be on his mind. I just heard it on the news. I didn't even know that he was indicted.

Don't bother answering people when they bring up color, etc. Their behinds are quick to verbally criticize but slow to show help in concession stand sales, ticket sales, getting the team supplies, etc. Coach Gravely...hold your head up high...you are loved and respected...Certainly not because you happen to have been born black but because of the man I know you are.

Having read all these comments and gaining a better understanding of what's really going on at Mount View HS and the athletic department, I now know why their football team was soundly defeated by two single-A schools. What a sad state of affairs! Who created that mess and who in Sam Hill is in charge of it? Sheesh! All I can say is you people need to wake up and smell the coffee. Unbelievable!

BTW, from what I heard on the news today, Mr. Gravely ran off the road and struck the man on the bicycle.

I haven't made any allegations one way or the other. Why would you ask me questions regarding the matter? BTW, were you there? Do you know the details? If so, enlighten the rest of us. Thank you!
