<quoted text>A 22 is a good controlled up close killer hand gun. But at a distance it looses speed.
I shoot my 22 custom build rifle at 100 Yards, and I use the Walmart Federal 36 grain hollow point that I buy in Bulk, which is the best Ammo made today for the 22 rifle. The bullet will hit hole for hole at 25 yards, and will drop 6 inches on a hundred yards.
Now comparing that with the next best gun is the 22 magnum, it will drop 2 inches on a hundred yards with cci hollow points, and will hit a clay pigeon target place on the ground at the 100 yard range.
Lots of people say the 36 grain mag is better, but I can't get as good of a group on 100 as I can with the regular cci ammo.
So if I was going to depend on a 22 it would have to be the magnum, which I do have in a Black Widow, and American arms and a ruger single 6, and several others. I also have the 2 shot derringer in a 22 mag. But it isn't as accurate as the 22 long rifle in a hand gun.
So buck for baldy, I don't think I'd use any one of those mouse guns for personal protection.
Now the Mafia probably uses them for execution style killings , "So I am told", and they are good for Killing hogs close up, with a shot between the eyes and then jumping over into the penn and cutting their throat. But thats about all a 22 is good for, with the acceptance of killing squirrels or rabbits.
I use mine for recreational purposes such as target shooting.
Long shot,17 cal will out do the 22.At times I carry a 22 pistol,Walter makes a nice auto.Also a Walter PPKS 380 and a
32 ;along with a 38 bodyguard S/W.sometime a 45 in small of my back.Just depends on what I'm wearing, where I'm going and how I feel. But I always carry something. Me I just love the dam things.Have several long weapons, eyes not so good
anymore,100 yards,I'd better drive truck to get a little closer.Scope reflects with implant in right eye.Better at night.GOSH

I don't own a 17 caliber, the bullet weight seems too light for me. Reminds me of a bb gun shooting high speed lolol. But heck If it works use it .As I said I just use the 22's for target shooting because the ammo is cheep./ I mostly reload all my high power bullets. They shoot better than factory load and it give me my choice of bullet and speed. Usually I go for about 2500 FPS, that seems to be the magical number for about all bullets.

I think the 25.06 is above 3100. which makes it a perfect Deer rifle,if you use the Hornady 120 grain core-Lokt ammo...I use a single shot Ruger#1 and so far I have used 6 rounds and brought home 6 deer with it...I don`t like to have to go hunt for my deer after I shoot one so I place my shots in the kill zone. and never try to be a hero and shoot at one 4 or 5 hundred yards away..LOL
Over the years I`ve always used core Lokt and in my opinion they`re the best round for the 25.06 for deer...
I sometimes use my 740 Remington 30.06 semi-auto and I also use core lokt with it..Good stopping power. One shot one kill.
The only thing that bugs me is the price of ammo now..I can get 30.06 rounds for 13.00 and the 25.06 rounds cost 25.00, whats up with this crap???...lol

I agree Dufus the core lokt is the best for deer. I have used it for yrs. I do my own reloading and have shot every bullet on the market. The core lokt stays together and does its job without destroying too much meat. I shoot a 243 wssm at 4100 fps with a 65 mm Generation 2 sniper scope{target shooting} and a 30-06 with hot loads around 3800 fps.{deer hunting} Dufus have you thought about reloading your own ammo? I found its way cheaper than paying $30-$40 a box for 243wssm ammo. I like to customize my ammo. I personally use the hornady for the -06 but i use nosler for the 243. IMR powder seems to burn the best for both. I would love to find a place to do long distance shooting in our area. They use to have a place in Davidson county but closed it down a few yrs back. Would you know of any near us?

A 2506 is a gun in itself lol. I have the ruger MK-2 and it is a flat shooting gun . I am going to get me some dies and reload my own bullets for it. They are more accurate and less expensive, About half the cost of a factory load, and IMO more dependable .

You`re right factory loads are notorious for being inconsistant..At least when you load them yourself you know how much powder you have..You can`t tell how old factory loads are either..

Yeah i use to go to Uwharrie also. U're right most long ranges are near the coast or mountains. Thanks for the info my friend. Dufus have you been to the range in Brenton,WV?,,its across lil davy mountain into wyoming county. U can shoot i think about 200 yrds there. I also use to worry about knocking my scope off before i made it back to Uwharrie.,,LOL,,Only bad thing about uwharrie is you have those Foxworthy rednecks that show up opening morning, with no muffler on the pickup and their tailgate beat'n and bang'n and running everything off for 400 miles. Then they get out near where you are hunt'n and wanna sight their rifles in on some beer bottles by the headlights of the pickup, which might i mention they have no shortage of targets because the truck bed is full of beer bottles/beer cans from the day before. I guess thats why they have a good supply of targets because they had one too many from the day before. Then you hear them at the country store complaining how they ALMOST killed a buck until a vehicle went by making too much road noise. I have been bowhunting in a stand and had them ride horses right under me, All poop'n in the woods. I started to bag me a Horsie! <grin>

Sniper, You must have been there the same time I was. I also had some kids rida horses right under my stand, they had a dog with them that was rollin around in the scent I put out. I came off the stand and went home..LOL
Yeh I know about the rednecks too, they hunt mostly at night from the back of a pickup truck and then stay drunk and shoot at cans during the day...I don`t hunt there anymore, opening day is like being in Vietnam on the Tet holidays..Bullets whizzing every which way..LOL

Yep brother we sure have had the lead to whiz by our heads. I was in a stand once and some guy opened up with a 22 semiauto rifle shoot'n at squirrels. I slid down the tree and hid behind a bigger oak while yelling NOBODY UP HERE BUT US DEAD PEOPLE! <grin> Oh and the best is when the so called Hank Parkers get on the lake and run their 350 small block chevy motors to nascar noise levels. Then the Thunderbirds {fighter jets} decide they wanna practice doing dry run bombing the lake at mach-2. Who the heck needs a tour of duty in Iraq when we have Uwharrie. Yep i don't hunt there anymore either. I stopped hunting there yrs back. I was hunting at Butner falls but the National Guard started running under my stand there playing war games. Then they open up over the ridge line with a 30mm chaingun on a humvee. I'm like all this military land and they wanna come play on our hunt'n ground. We need to wear T-shirts with painted purple hearts saying we survived uwharrie!

These ol boys in WV don`t know how good they got it...LMAO.. I drove through Uhwarrie one day a couple of years ago and the National guard were playin"Lets get lost" or whatever they call it,down there too.

Yup you can walk a breadcrumb trail of brown MRE bags all the way from your vehicle to your hunt'n spot. Then you have these tourist from colorado with their big ass pull camper and yard yapp'n kids scream'n bloody murder that her brother took her last popsickle. Not to mention the velcro heads standing at the main road gates scared to go into the woods because some backwoods georgia redneck might need some rifle practice.,<grin> Lets not forget the gamewardens that travel the roads near the speed of light trying to check some kid at the campground for fishing license. If this ain't enough you have boyscout troops walking thru pee'n on every bush in sight. The weekend warriors have every other bush all taped up with orange marker tape so they won't get lost, which they get lost anyways and end up under my treestand. If you are lucky to kill a deer and drag it out without falling into a grave size foxhole the weekend warrior dug during the night. Me and a hunt'n buddy came upon a mound of old liquor bottles. He was like good GOD whats up with all these bottles? I said this must be the bottling division of an old Moonshine still. Oh yeah and the rattlesnakes in there are as big as Anacondas. When ya get to the country store to check your deer in, You will be mobbed with Vietnamese wanting to buy it from you. By the time you leave the hunt'n woods all you have left is a hat that says UWHARRIE BUCK 08. Yep the good ole boys in WV don't know how good they do have it.

Ive been to the range at B and G.
They are good people to trade with too.
The guy who runs it is sure the most professional gun and Bow man in mercer county. He's been at it a long time. Ive bought several guns from him and Ive been satisfied with each one.

I had a Ruger 77 Mark II and traded it for my Ruger#1. The 77 was in a 30.06 caliber and was to light to hold on target while firing also bolt action..I like the #1 because its heavy(9lbs) and accurate. and it ain`t nowhere as loud as the 77.
I don`t reload right now but I always save my brass for the guys that do..How much does it cost to get started reloadin???
