I use Firefox and have it built in to the web browser but for internet explorer you could download a spell checker through yahoo and have it part of the home page or just use your email program to do a spell check.

You don't need to format your drive, you will lose everything saved. It sounds like you have a bad internet explorer file and just need to repair. Depending on what version you have, you can usually repair by doing this:
Instructions for repair of Internet Explorer 7.

On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
On the Advanced tab, click Reset.
In the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box, click Reset to confirm.

This will reset the internet explorer back to the original format and should take care of that problem.

I had the problem, deleted the google toolbar and the problem went away.

If you would just go to www.open office.com you can download all sorts of little and big things that can help you on your computer and almost everything there is compatible with any windows or Microsoft programs my brother who builds computers and does programming swears by Open office for any extra stuff and you don't have to worry about things being added on that you don't want or need
