Jay will retire after his term.

Who thinks he was a "Joke" for the State? I do!

And, How does he spell his last name?

U do not think of him as a joke, while he was NY bred he spent the vast majority of his life defending WV, he came to WV in his 20's, he was always rich but he found an affinity here to represent the rest of his life in this state, he actually been to every part of this state as Governor and Senator, very doubtful the successor to his seat can say the same.

His language in regards to this state his entire career tells me he had the state's best interest, in spite of being an heir to Exxon.

Not everyone shares my aspect but that is how I see it.

I never did support or vote for him.
It's funny, Back when McDowell County coal was King Jay was in this County Three/Four times a month.
Now that McDowell is dead, He hasn't been here.

I'm glad he's leaving.

I doubt his successor will be in McDowell more than once in six years if even that, esp if it a republican.
I doubt

John Raese has ever been to McDowell and doubt Archie's girl ever been down that way unless she was a child under Daddy's trips to there.

He was a great mind Senator Rockefeller did lots for the state of West Virginia and McDowell County and the USA..... Look up his record on many issues and you'll see that he was a very intelligent man, who cared and like serving the people with his service to the nation and state....
He supported Coal, he supported mine safety, the UMWA and unions, he supported tourism, he supported road construction, higher education, and he supported WV for many years....

He will be greatly missed and hard to replace in 2014..

All he did was to help the UMWA close down all the coal mines in the county.

What mines did he shut down????? Most of the mines was already shut down in McDowell County when Senator Rockefeller got in office in the 1970s....

It sad how some people really have no clue about what is going on in this country...

Jay is a great man who always stood up for coal
miners and retirees. I thought at first that he was using West Virginia as a stepping stone, but I soon realized that he truly loved the Mountain State. May God bless him and Sharon.

If that were true why didn't Jay do anything to re-open the mines?

You said that Jay supported coal.

Lots of the mines was only open cause of the Industrial era to Cold War era..... The coal was used to build ships and then lots was sold off to other countries....
Really wasn't nothing no Democrat or Republican could had done to save coal.... except set back and watch it happen...

If the successor is black I know he won't waste his time in Welch.

This is WV Earl, if they do not approve of a black president they will not elect a black man for senator and would use the same simple minded excuses to not vote for such either.

US Steel was still open until Arch Moore recaptured the governor's mansion. Many mines started shutting down in the 1950's and technology is what put many people out of work. Lot of people in this state is confused with the history of mining and just want to blame Obama, Rocky gets blamed because he backs Obama, simple minded logic really.

Republican policies (deregulation) is what got 29 miners killed nearly three years ago yet these fools vote for a GOP candidate that condemned coal in his state, sometyhing Obama never done.

You would see it that way since the underground railroad ran to NY during the Civil war.
