While I'll agree with 'I think' that Bluestone was a very hard company to work for because they'd get rid of even really good workers just because they felt like it, I am fearful that the new owners might be even harder to work for. The lack of information coming out-will they even keep the workers they have, will the pay scale/hours be the same, etc.-makes me wonder how the new owners will conduct business. It was in the papers that it sold, everyone knows that it is sold, what's the harm of letting the workers know a few details? If I worked there, I'd be afraid that once the "Russians" took over, I might be let go. While Bluestone is hard to work for, it can get worse. My question is-why no communication? The workers, who have made the money for Bluestone, deserve to know what the new company has in store for them. If anything.

yea i agree i was told that 1st of april oao a russian company is taking over all of bluestone all thats in wv. bluestone bought a pile of land in kentucky and in tenn and are going to start mining next month i hope this company are alot better company than bluestone was and i hope the rumors that if heard aint true i heard that they would buy it and close it down just for tax right offs if thats true we are all screwed......but its hard to belive that after all they spent they would just close the gates fox 59 said that oao is one of russia larges steel producers...

I heard the same thing, I think, and like you, I hope that isn't true. It doesn't seem like even a huge corporation like that could afford to spend that much money just for a tax right off though, does it? I also heard that Bluestone only sold its Union jobs and were still planning to run its non-union ones. It sounds like that's not true if you are saying they sold all their WV mines. The thing is that right now, everyone's going on what they hear. I do wish they'd be decent and tell their workers what to expect.

yea i think j and jim justic need to grow up and tell there men whats going on but ive been around bluestone for years they never let you know anything till they close the doors i worked for kopperston trk a branch of bluestone for 2 years and when they shut it down it was short and sweet we came in one day and they said that they were closing it down and gave us all pink slips.....

From the sounds of it, you people aren't aware of the ties this new company has with the Russian mafia. Dig around and ask questions about it for your own confirmation. This should be interesting to watch unfold.

Just thought I'd throw that out there.

I wouldn't be surprised if that's what happens here, would you? It would be no different than the dirty way they have always treated their workers. They simply don't respect that although they own the mines, it's the workers who make it successful.

you hit the nail on the head they think of you as a number instead of a person i know that is why they lost so many good workers when i was hired they asked me do you have a family i said yes they said if you work here very long you wont preacher tom came down from beckly and told us that if we didnt like the hours or the pay that we could get out that seat will fit anybodys ass exact words i think thats another reason they are selling they cant get nobody that will take there shit (lol)............

What's going on with the small mines at the bottom of Burke Mtn. I think its called J & S Coal, maybe. They have been idle for quite a while. I believe that they sub-contract with Bluestone.

D Man, I'm not so much worried about the mafia as I am just dealing with the Russians in general. Look at how strained the relationship between them and the US is getting.
I think, Preacher Tom doesn't sound much like a preacher to me! I've heard that his language can make a sailor blush and that he treats the workers badly.

I posed this question as well, "Just wonder". Wouldn't it be awful if everyone was let go without noice and they brought their own workers? With the workers being kept in the dark and only going by hearsay, it's hard to tell what will happen with the change over. Btw, I hear it's not going to change hands unitl May 1 now. Has anyone else heard this?

They can't do that at the union mines, can they, without closing it down for a year?
