They didnt shut down all of them. Just the highwall miners, 39 and 39A. My hubby was lucky he didnt get the lay off this time around. He has been laid off 4 times since he started working there. Not the only place laying off employers. Pinnacle also laid off alot of miners. Is very sad with the holidays coming up. But thats the way the coal industry works.

Have you been reading about the layoffs all over the country. What about the automobile factories. It is not just the coalfields. Seems everyone is hurting. Remember Bush is still in the White House.

I still have a job... but the owner is a prick this is true... My guess is a couple of layoffs are coming but it shouldn't be many... Most, if not all, of Bluestone's jobs are union so if someone is low on seniority I would definitely keep my options open on other jobs... And whoever is worried about them selling out, don't be because odds are if they are sold the new owners will be better to their men then Bluestone Coal is anyways... Companies are sold because other companies plan to make ton's of money with them so it's no big deal really...

Seems like whenever any company has a lay off it is usually just before Christmas.. Maybe they do it to keep those getting laid from going into debt during Christmas.

Actually, someone would have to read those stories to him. He can't read too good with his head up his a$$.

I wonder if he ever gets tired of being wrong about everything?

I to am a wife of a miner. And I prey for these families in this time. It is pissy as someone said for the men to be laid off this time of year. It can happen to any of us. Lets just prey that a new job will come soon for these men and their families. I prey everyday that my husband is not layed off. I wish you all the best and if there was a way to help you all I would gladly do it.

hey i really think that it is going to get better with Obama. Look at the gas prices already. I do not think that Obama is that kind of person to take jobs from us because he has a family to. So you need to quit talking about him that way.

Regardless as to who is to blame, regardless as to its the factory workers who are laid off, or the folks at DOW, or Bayer or our coal miners, lets at least admit that this is horrible for us all. Once upon a times, certain jobs were considered to be absolutely safe. Now that we are seeing state and local governments laying off workers, just like the private sector, no ones job is safe. I am just so very sorry for all those having to go through this. My daughter in Florida did NOT have a sub-prime mortgage. She, and her husband worked 16 hours a day each running two convenience stores. Sales fell to almost half overnight, and they are being forced to sell their home, and move along with the grandchildren to a small rental unit. They had to close one store since it simply was bleeding money, and it seems like they spend even more time trying to keep the one store left afloat trying nothing more then to make a living and give my grandchildren a chance at the future. It is such a sad situation for so many across the land. We West Virginians by and large have been poorer then average so we dont feel this deep recession quite as much as the rest of the nation does. Not yet anyway. But who knows? In the next year or two things could get really really bad here and well. I fear for my kids and grandkids. I really do. Not to mention that we have managed to saddle them with a debt so large that it may never be paid off. The reasons are many, though I am hard pressed to find one just reason that makes much sense to me.

I worked at Red fox on a Highwall Miner. They started laying off and now they just have one day shift crew working. They also sent the strip home the other night. Man, this really blows! They hired one guy he worked about three weeks went to go sign papers on a house he just bought and they layed him off that evening. They do it every year. Hopefully this new company takes over everybody comes back and the management can go to hell.

My husband doesn't work for bluestone but he did in the past, my dad works for bluestone on the strip and he got laid off, he's worked there on and off (with bluestone) for the past 14 years and it's not uncommon for them to lay off. It seems like its always around christmas too.
