WEIRTON- The Supreme Court has ruled against American Labor Unions in a 2012 case brought by a Weirton man. The landmark case found several AFL-CIO unions guilty of paying non-union wages to homeless men hired to man picket lines.

In Clarence v. AFL-CIO, attorneys for the plaintiff alleged union leaders hired homeless individuals to fill picket lines without the benefit of union pay or benefits. Lead attorney, Oliver Holmes argued, "The hubris and irony is staggering. The fact is they've been hiring non-union workers to protest non-union shops for decades."
