The webster springs city council recently enacted a new ordinance banning the use of engine brakes, also known as "jake brakes" within the city limits at ALL hours; the new law goes into effect August 1, 2010; the council has purchased six road signs to be placed along the highways advising truckers of the new law

That is the most idiotic thing I have ever heard. This is not a metropolis. The engine (jake) brake is designed to slow trucks down w/o using the brakes as hard. It keeps the brakes cool thus not causing them to glaze over and preventing the lose of the breaks on an 80,000 pound freight train. The isnt enough industry to tax or pick on so now they are going to pick on the trucks. I guess the mayor who lives on the main drag doesnt like the noise. Maybe its time to move and leave the trucks alone.

You want revenue in this county? Start taxing out of towners who ride their atv's & utv's here. make them buy yearly permits, cite them for riding on the state roads, hardtop etc. Start arresting them for DUI. The out of towners treat this place as a playground and litter, get drunk and destroy our community. Its seems that the county commission and local government dont care about it unless it is on their door step.

The city limits in Webster DO NOT have any significant hills/grades for the trucks to worry about. Trucks can still use their jake brakes coming off the hills, but when they hit the city limit they can't use them. NO big deal; probably just a bunch of pot-bellied, loud mouth whining truckers complaining about this law.

Oops! The city ordinance exempts the hospital hill; the boundary line for the no jake brake zone begins at the intersection of Rt. 20 and Bennett Ave., just past the NAPA store, so the hospital hill is not an issue. Now who's the ignorant arse?

This is the unsafest law I have ever heard and the dumbest! Jake breaks r a safety feature on our trucks for a reason! I told my workers to use them in town and I would pay the ticket!!! We gotta stand up for what's right! If the people who live in the city limits asrent use to jake breaks after all these years then there is something wrong!

I'll use mine as well. I hope my engine brake rattles the false teeth out of the complainers heads.

I drove a truck for many years. Coming off a mountain the Jake can, and will save your life. The problem is in the city on small grades drivers with straight pipes will use them on every downshift until they come to a stop. At 3 AM it is totally uncalled for. Just a young cowboy hotshot playing with his new toy.

The Town of Addison (Webster Springs) has never discussed this, nor passed an ordinance. Read the minutes of the meetings. They are public, published in the Webster Echo, and available to read at City Hall. As you can see, THERE IS NO SIGNS PLACED ALONG THE ROADS AS YOUR POST STATES!!! Before an ordinance can be made, it has to be brought up in the council meetings (which it never has), a motion has to be made (which it never has), and then voted on in three consecutive meetings before it is an ordinance (which it is not!). You CAN use your Jake in the city limits without restrictions. Someone is just trying to stir something up. Get your facts straight before you post but we know on this site that is hard to do.

"NOT TRUE" is a trucker who wants to stir shitt; the council minutes do in fact reflect the enacting of this ordinance banning jake brakes; i went to the town office last thursday and read it for myself; these ignoramous, large-bellied truckers want it their way or no way; many towns have laws against the use of jake brakes; i'm glad our town council had the wisdom to finally ban them here

Truckers do not need to be using Jake Brakes going down the hill on S. Circle Dr. between Monterey & Janitell Rd. We really need a "No Jake Brake" Sign posted somewhere at the top of that hill. Most vehicles get stopped at the stop lights at Monterey (at the top of the hill). Makes since to just keep in a lower gear or gear down (automatics have lower gears too) as it is only 40 to 45mph there anyway & a Truck should not be driving so fast as to have to use a Jake Brake (or any Brakes for that matter - weather providing of course) on that hill at such a low speed limit. I live in that area & I will hear one to three Truckers a week using their Jake Brakes. It is extremely loud and totally uncalled for on that Circle hill. No I am not a Truck Driver but my Dad has been a Truck Driver for over 50 yrs and I grew up around and in Semi's so I am not appreaching this as an average citizen who has no knowledge of a Semi or what Semi Drivers face out there on the Roads on an every day basis,
