It's official. Taxpayers are no longer simply helping the poor, they're subsidizing the lives of welfare recipients at a better rate than their own. The Senate Budget Committee has released a report showing households living below the poverty line and receiving welfare payments are raking in the equivalent of $168 per day in benefits which come in the form of food stamps, housing, childcare, healthcare and more. The median household income in 2011 was $50,054, totaling $137.13 per day. The worst part? Welfare payments are equivalent to making $30 per hour for 40 hours a week. The median wage for non-welfare recipients is $25 per hour but because they pay taxes, unlike welfare recipients, the wage is bumped down to $21 per hour. From the report: For fiscal year 2011, CRS identified roughly 80 overlapping federal means-tested welfare programs that together represented the single largest budget item in 2011—more than the nation spends on Social Security, Medicare, or national defense. The total amount spent on these federal programs, when taken together with approximately $280 billion in state contributions, amounted to roughly $1 trillion. Nearly 95 percent of these costs come from four categories of spending: medical assistance, cash assistance, food assistance, and social / housing assistance. Under the President’s FY13 budget proposal, means-tested spending would increase an additional 30 percent over the next four years. see charts http://townhall.com/tipsheet/katiepavlich/201... By all means Mr. President, let's raise taxes on people already paying the majority of the taxes because clearly they aren't "paying their fair share" to subsize the lives of others already.

Yeah, they're getting free money, but on some level they must know they're parasitic losers. Self respect is priceless.

It's a ridiculous report drawing ridiculous conclusions. Included in the report as "being spent on welfare recipients" is the Child Tax Credit - I believe about 4 billion. This is a deduction people earning up to 55,000, 75,000 or 110,000, depending on filing status, can take. Probably many badmouthing the "poor" are taking advantage of this deduction to pay a little over 4 billion less in taxes last year. This amount (which is NOT being SPENT by the Federal Givernment) is then divided by the number of poor households and being added to the amount being "spent" on them. Many other examples can be found in the list of 83 agencies lumped into what the government is spending on the poor. Extremely dishonest - but it does the job - keeping it so the middle class keeps blaming the poor for all of the ills in this country.

Self respect is priceless. seems to me the tables are turning. now we know how the blacks we kidnapped from Africa felt when they toiled for years and did not get paid. Now they getting paid for those years. Yep, karma ain't no joke. We crackers were parasites at one time too.
