I took a continuing education class to maintain my electrical license, and the instructor told us that all licenses will double in price soon, except for the nurse licenses, they already doubled recently.
I wouldn't mind the cost so much, if it didn't just get put into the general fund. I feel that some of the millions of dollars spent every year just for Electric Licenses should go to hire more State of Connecticut electrical inspectors to go around all the different jobs and check up on people who are working without licenses and for apprentices who are not indentured legally with a company and getting credit for their hours of learning. When you start adding up the money for plumbers/hairdressers/massage therapists/fire protection/HVAC/elevator/ tin knockers/ All of them pay for licenses, but electrical licensing is the most important as far as Health to people.
If a plumber screws up, you most likely wont drown in your sleep. If a hair dresser messes up you color, you can re-die it. If an electrician screws up, you can die from the fire or get burned. The State of Connecticut has thousands of electricians, guess how many inspectors? 2

The job across the street from my house right now has many people working that dont look like they were born in this country. Do you think OSHA would come down if I called them? They would contact the contractor and inform them that they will be visiting their job on such and such a date, at such a time. That contractor would then make sure the guys (or gals) on the job that day were licensed and ok, as he would not want to be fined. If the State of Connecticut wanted to hire me and give me a car and pay for gas mileage, I would agree to only get paid by the "per person" I catch working illegally, and I bet I could not only get rich myself, I could bring in a lot of money into the general coffers of the state. So ya see, they don't really need to double your drivers license or hunting license or all of the other licenses that they will be doubling soon, they just have to enforce the laws that are already on the books, and the fines would bring in lots of money, as well as insuring safe work practices being done for people and families.
