I'm sure that T-Paw and the apologists for business on these blogs will cite this saga as harassment of an upstanding business executive. Yet another example of the poor business climate in MN. After all, Petters created jobs didn't he--what's the fuss about those other "minor discrepancies"?!? The apologists will further wring their hands when Denny Hecker is brought to trial. I'm sure T-Paw will cite this as a reason jobs are leaving to South Dakota with the fleeing fat cats.

I was a classmate of Tom Petters at Apollo High School in St. Cloud. I remember Tom as being a good man.

I am simply amazed by the reaction to Tom's downfall. It only goes to prove the old saying, "When I'm wronged, I want justice... When I'm wrong, I want mercy".

What have we become? This has turned into a Medieval scenario of the towns people, men, women and children, turning out to watch and cheer at the gallows as the executioner pulls the lever, swings the axe or cuts the cord on the guillotine to see the execution.

What good does it do to lock-up Tom Petters for the rest of his life? None at all! If he was smart enough to engage in this scheme, wouldn't he be smart enough to make restitution?

It's unfortunate that, as an enlightened society, we're still thinking about revenge... that's just sad...

He will not be motivated to make restitution, if he can not also live the life of a multi-millionaire.

It's not about revenge so much as it is he must pay his debt to society. He was convicted of 20 counts. I would imagine he didn't get charged for all his criminal behavior.
