T CF Financial Corp., the bank that turned retail banking upside down two decades ago when it introduced "totally free checking" accounts, will soon put an end to them.

Why am I not surprised that the Star Tribune only tells part of the story?- There is nothing in the story about individual responsiblity or about how a business needs to make money.
Further, TCF is not going to charge a fee for all acounts. Accounts will be free for people that have atleast $500 in their account, or atleast one direct deposit of $100 each month, or a $2500 combined household balance.
Get the story right!

Plenty of other banks to chose from.
I wrote out 230 of my remaining tcf checks
for one cent to open an account at another bank.

well, did anyone stop to think why the bank change its accounts...eventually every bank will have to change somethings to make up their profit difference that they will lose by the gov't restrictions applied on overdraft fees. So whatever plenty of other banks everyone is going to will change something or the other and getting rid of totally free checking accounts is the easiest and most convinient for any bank to do.
