My name is Douglas C Furnas, I live and work in Waynesville. I have worked for Waynesville for over 30 years. I am so sick of name calling and finger pointing. What is a democracy ? Government where the people hold the ruling power. Are there obligations that go with living in a democracy? To vote and put a person in office is that as far as "your" obligation goes? Do we as a people think that by electing someone, we can leave everything up to them without "seeing" how they are doing? The people who are over 18 years of age and live in Waynesville are the people who hold the ruling power. Have "they" and are "they" insuring that our elected leaders have and are doing their best? We who live in Waynesville have an obligation to the Village. BMP=best management practices have not always been policy in our wonderful Village. As a person I know what happens when you spend more that you make, you charge it on credit cards. If you continue you will go under! Being the Village of Waynesville is in the state of Ohio, the state doesn't intend for "us" to continue down this path. We must man and woman UP and take the responsibility of being a citizen of this Village. I've invested my life in this Village. I have nothing against the township or its leaders, but I still want to live in the Village of Waynesville. Debt was generated at the Village, did you do everything in your power to control that debt? Voting for someone and walking away and letting them decide everything for you, doesn't sound to me like a democratic republic, it sounds like freedom trickling away. If you are too busy to be involved, I'm sure there are groups out there that would love to be put in charge and then have no one caring enough to watch their actions.
In May, we will vote on the income tax. I urge you from the bottom of my heart, please help our Village to survive. I will not call people names, or sling mud on anyone! I will publicly say "I love this town!" I want our town to be the wonderful place it was and is, and not some "Peyton Place" type we seem to be moving toward. Sincerely, Douglas C Furnas
