I've been interested in this for a while, too. I understand that a Florida investment group thought they had an agreement to buy it for development, when the man who owns the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad announced that he had an agreement to purchase it. His intent was to operate the park.
I believe it's still in litigation, but I haven't heard anything in a while.
Anyone have any recent news?

We should find out soon what is going on.

Is there anyway to find out about what is going on with them for sure. I would like to present a proposal to my company to try and save the park like it is.

WE HEARD THAT THERE WAS A DEATH ON THE SKY LIFT AT GHOST TOWN IN THE SKY . WE WERE BIG FANS OF THIS THEME PARK AND ARE JUST CURIOS AS TO WHY THIS PLACE IS FOR SALE.

There were no deaths, although the lift broke down a couple times and the passenders had to be helped down. It's my understanding that the man who owns it is in his late 70s with a sick wife. He didn't have the money, the time or the energy to maintain the park as needed, so he decided to close and sell it. dissappointed about the event today...Took a full day off work to go and then they wouldn't let anyone else up to the top.

There were multiple buses and that's not what they told us.
Plus 4 full buses came down to the parking lot and dropped people off and but they still wouldn't let anyone up.
And I know there were three families that droe together up from florida for the event and weren't allowed in.
If they wanted to make it right, they need to have another day and let the people that have the yellow slips go up to the top.

the rumor of some one dieing on the chair lift was so so fake although we did have so troubles with it working. Don't worry, everything is PERFECT now.

Things are far from perfect. Evidently the park is in financial difficulty. The coaster is still not running, and other parts are not working up to par. Also workers are not getting paid. My husband is a contractor there and has not been paid since April. He is aware of a great deal of work on the electronic equipment, games and such, that still needs to be done. Ghost Town owes us over $5,000.00 and no one will even return our calls.

we just took our Grandchildren, age 6 and 8 to Ghostown in the Sky. We hadn't been there for about 14 years. We were a little disapointed remebering it how it used to be , but we enjoyed it anyhow. If it can get back on it's feet, I think it will be as good or better than before. THe new owners are certainly trying their best. Every worker was friendly and nice, the food was quite high priced though. Right now the price seems too high for so many rides not to be running, but they did refund us part of it because of that. i really missed the "Ghost ship" ride, or Pirate ship , whatever they called it before, and the little railfoad train and even the swings wern't working that day, i think I like the old roller coaster, I'm a big fan of the old wooden ones, not such a big fan of large loops,it was a beautiful day, and the view is spectacular, the shoot out good, and the talk about wolves interesting though. The kids didn't want to see the singing shows , but from what we heard, they were good. All in all we had a great time.
