Another promotional postcard. This is the porch in front on the second floor, overlooking the Gasconade bottom-land and a bluff across the river.

Great pictures. I am finding learning about the Pippins is a great family story. My grandmother was a Pippin.

I have lots of fond memories of Pippin Place. My family started going there in 1955. We went every year until about 1965. I have lots of pictures and memories! My brother and I used to pick watercress for John (the chef) for the delicious meals he prepared. He used to give us a dollar for the "work".

I've enjoyed all of these pictures. I first vacationed at Pippins with my parents in the late 1940's. By 1953, I found that I enjoyed working with John in the kitchen more than I did fishing. I spent one summer vacation working for Mr. and Mrs.(Dru/Eva) Pippin. It was my first job. I carried bags to rooms, swept stairs and porches. I remember the ozone on this porch in the middle of a thunderstorm. I shucked thousands of peas with John. He taught me how to make his rolls which I still make to this day. I washed pots and pans, dishes and sheets. Waiters and waitresses were Bill, Laureen, Mildred (Mickey). We used to swwim in the Gasconade after finishing cleaning up from dinner and setting the tables for breakfast the next day. Louie and Arthur were both there as well. Arthur and I slopped the pigs and carried water from the Spring if the pump/electric went out. Mrs. Pippin often took me to "town" in her Chevy to do the shopping and carry the groceries for her. What wonderful memories.
