columbia house responded to my e-mail that I sent to qjdu@columbiahouse.com. I referenced the account #, they said that my account was now being serviced by AIS Services, LLC, another collection agency. I called Nationwide Collections and made the payment. I have had several memberships with Columbia House in the past. The rep, who was very curteous, verified the original mailing address that CH had. We're going back like 10 years. It seams legit to me and my good credit history is worth alot more than $80.00.

I received a letter several months ago from the collection agency regarding an old balance that I supposedly owed. I, too, opened an account, however that was a good 12-14 yrs ago. I contacted the number listed on the collection agency and they gave me a toll free number to BMG. I requested all records on my account using the number given by the collection agency. I was told that the files could not be found and all charges would be cleared through the collection agency. I contacted the agency about 7 days later, and for once, BMG held up to their word. Trust Me, I won't ever make that mistake again!!!!!!!!!!

I just received a letter asking for $79.08 and I don't think I've ever had a Columbia House account. I'm really weirded out by this and I never ever pay things late.

Is there any way of getting in on this class action suit? I got my letter yesterday. Columbia has no record of the account (I vaguely remember a brief membership cancelled in about a month or two after obligations were fulfilled in 2001 or 2002. Never got any more bills, catalogs, etc. Nationwide was very prompt in returning my call but vague on how to reach Columbia (I am trying online website email) Has anyone ignored this thing? Did it go away or did they keep hounding you? They picked the right amount because most people will pay 39.54 before hassling it and they know it. SUCKS!

I recieved a notice for $63.60 from Nationwide Collections. I am in California and noted that they voilated law by failing to include the state Rosenthal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act statement about the consumer's rights. I have sent a complaint to the California Attorney's General office, as well, as sending a letter disputing the validity of the debt.

Perhaps I'm mistaken but I believe that consumer notices are required for residents of Colorado Maine, Massachusetts, New York City , North Carolina and Utah.

Here is the Columbia house DVD Club number - 1-800-262-2001. Hitting 0 after you select english should get you to an operator. I had to call them today regarding a letter they sent me saying I did not fulfill my contract. Fortunately, I save ALL my paperwork and had proof directly from them that I had fulfilled it. I was told by customer service that they did not have that information in their computer even though it is listed under my account name on the website!!! So, I had to copy the paperwork that I have that lists what I bought and that my contract was fulfilled and send it to their CS p.o. box in Indianapolis. What a crock!! My advice to anyone who actually did sign up - KEEP ALL YOUR PAPERWORK AND PRINT OUT ANY INFO FROM THEIR E-MAILS AND/OR WEBSITE. It's the only way to back up what you know.

My wife got a similar letter from Nationwide saying she owed $81 and she has not had an account for over 7 years. I went to the Columbia House site and submitted an email under the 'Contact Us' area stating the problem and we received a response in about a day from someone saying they apologize for the misunderstanding and they have "cancelled" the account and removed it from their active files. They also said they will notify the collections agency to cease billing. Hopefully this will clear it up.

I received a letter from Nationwide Collections, Inc. saying they are taking legal action against me for owing Columbia House $58.71. This account is so old. They said a sheriff will come to my home and serve me a summons. Can they do that. I don't know if I should pay.

I just got a call from someone saying who said they were with a collection agency and that I had an outstanding balance with BMG. I've never had an account w/BMG. I told them that I'd been a victim of ID theft and that I would not provide information over the phone and that they should send me the details certified mail. She did not have my correct address; I did not provide my real address. I asked for the company website and phone number and told her I'd get back to her when I could verify her identity; she only provided the website: www.firstnationwide.com . I went onto the website, which is citybank, and spoke with a customer service rep. who verified that their collection agency is in Las Vegas. The address the woman gave me was PO Box 6016 Camarillo, CA 93011. The rep said that they have no business in Camarillo. Sounds like fraud to me!

I received a letter from Nationwide Collection, Inc. stating I owed a debt originally to Columbia House. I have NEVER ordered anything from Columbia House. I was unable to locate a phone number to Columbia House but e-mailed their customer service representative listed on their official website. Columbia House could not locate the "supposed" account number that Nationwide Collections, Inc. included in their letter to me. Several weeks later, I received another letter from Nationwide Collections, Inc. claiming they would take legal action against me if I failed to reply/pay up and that a Sheriff would "serve any summons at my home." I called the toll free number for Nationwide Collections, Inc. in Fort Pierce, FL, and was told to forward the Columbia House e-mail along with the record number and "amount due" in the statement. The next day I received a reply from the collection agency stating my name was taken off their records. I think it helped that I informed them of my awareness of past complaints about Nationwide Collections, Inc. and their deceptive claims and that I was considering filing a consumer complaint myself. I am not sure if this was all a scam but now I have written proof that they replied to my messages/complaints.

To all of you receiving this Nationwide Collections letter, on behalf of Columbia House.

I have received 3 letters from Nationwide, ignoring them all (under the premise that it's a scam).

However, my landlord informed me the other day that he's been getting multiple calls from someone who won't reveal any information about themselves, looking for confirmation that I still live there.

I had founf Nationwide's website, where they list their mission statement to prospective clients. They mention how they specialize in "face to face" collection methods which result in high rates of success. One of the options in their steps to collections is to contact neighbors and such to the person who owes the "debt".

To my knowledge, I owe no one anything, so I shouldn't be getting people looking for me.

Perhaps this is a real issue, valid "debt" ot not?

At this point, I still won't contact them. "Never pay collection companies" is what I always see online ... or else another collection company will smell the blood and pop up with a new "debt"

Please be aware that letter from Nationwide Collections, Inc is a SCAM. They not only asking for money but also asking for last 3 digits of your credit card security number!!!

Please do not give out this information and do not send money. Please do not call the phone numbers listed since they may collect YOUR phone number this way.

I also recieved a letter for columbia house from Nationwide Collections, Inc. Stating I owed 36.94. I have not had an account with CH since 01. I am not the most financially responsible so when I recieved the letter I figured maybe I did owe it. I tried calling today to clear all my "debt" but no live person or any help. So I got on and googled "columbia House Payment" and found this forum and am now CONVINCED it is a scam.(the paper wasnt even perforated to detach w/payment..should have been a clue) I am unsure how to deal with it. And is it possible to get in on the suit? What steps would I need to take? Any help is appreciated
