Cutting taxes to stimulate growth is the backbone of the Republican platform. Im sure the 90plus % of Wayne county voters that voted republican in the last election all voted to see their taxes cut and to make new jobs.
So eliminating the sales taxes on anything made in Wayne county or work done in wayne county will immediately stimulate job growth and lessen the burden on small business.
So food prepared here, car repairs, manufactured products made here or anything involving Wayne county labor is tax exempt.
Sounds simple enuf.
Taxes have been cut for many years, still no improvement. Gonna take more than that. Too many jobs leaving the country. We can't all me Doctors, nurses, lawyers and Wall Street bankers.

I agree 100%.
The tax cuts wernt real cut and didnt include us out here. All the tax breaks since the 80s have been for the rich to the rich. Taxes for most people went up.

BUT

For local jobs to be created and kept local business need a way to be competitive. The long term fix is some protectionist tariffs on imported stuff. But that requres new real (not script readers) people in high places. Present day we meed a way for our small business to compete and win revenue creating jobs today.

There is a fruit juice company by the name of Odwalla that has a west coast and east coast processing facility. They are bi-coastal, but are weak in their next demographic area, the mid west. Middle TN is a great place to reach markets in Nashville, Memphis, Louisville, Huntsville, Chattanooga, Atlanta, etc.

One of their persononel gave a presentation to our local LIONS Club here in Orange Cove, CA. They are looking to expand their market into the midwest. I would strongly suggest getting ahold of your county leadership and have them contact the President of the company, to begin a dialog, then put together the best incentives they can muster from the federal, state and county programs, and develop a relationship with Odwalla to woo them into the Waynesboro area. This is what leaders do, so steer your leaders into a pro-growth, private sector, job creating direction.

Odwalla is a wholly owned subsidiary of Coca Cola. Independently operated as its own entity.

If a truck stop was the answer to our problems we would have been in good shape long ago. It's going to take more than a trucker or two stopping buy to dig us out of this hole. That "GRACE" industries place is just a joke.
JustSaying you do not know what you are talking about. Grace has put millions in payroll and to local suppliers. It has developed and sold technology never before developed.

Sunshine - FYI The geographic center of population for the United States is in Missouri, so we are close to that point meaning that we are almost centrally located for shipment throughout the USA.
A good location argument for benefit.

Agreed on St. Louis. Still, Wayne county leadership needs to get in the game if they're going to compete. Can't wait around hoping the phone rings, there's always competition, and sometimes the early foot in the door leaves a great impression.

Sunshine, who said you have to wait on the leadership or anyone else. Go after it yourself. I've contacted businesses before on a possible location here.

Coca Cola has a mfg site in Pulaski so they should be aware of the benefits of the area (or not).

The 4-laned 64 should help.

We have to anticipate what skills will be needed and have information available although I don't think a mfg person has ever sat on the recruitment boards.

Forget traditional manufacturing for a bit and concentrate on service business like distribution.
Does the need or demand exist for any type of retail distribution or marketing. Does Wayne county need another place to buy things? How much would you pay to have the things you buy in Florence Columbia, Lawrenceburg, or Nashville closer to you? more convenient?

Create:
Electronics and gadgets, Clothes, mechanics who can repair the newer cars and trucks, Tractor and lawn supply just to mention a few.

But personally...... I think some people just LIKE to have an excuse to leave town.

I would like to be positive, but from where I stand a truck stop for loggers would be useless when most of them have given up or have had their equipment reposessed due to a fallout of timber prices or if you look around no timber to cut. Grace Industries, well they tried but it is still empty. Everything else boxed up and moved to Mexico thanks to Nafta. Now what we have is a mostly government dependent county. What I mean by that is Tenncare, disability, foodstamps, and any other subsidized ck that can be obtained. That is what is wrong. A lot of people got dependent and lazy. If a large scale industry came to this county they probably wouldn't get enough qualified applicants to feel the positions. It is like this in a lot of areas besides this one. If you want a better life you must leave. If you choose to stay then you can only hope and pray.

You couldn't get enough here to pass a drug test. Besides, the folks who run this shit hole won't let anything come here that would pay a good wage. They just want crap like Grace.

How about getting a bigger grocery store in Wayne county. That way you don't have to drive 30 minutes to buy groceries.

I agree with that also. There are corrupt people in all of those groups you mentioned.

We need to get the ones who only care for money in their own pocket, out! And get some who not only want to provide for themselves, but enjoy helping and providing for others! Should be someone who is willing to help a person and expect nothing back. This use to be how people lived. But not now, it's always cutting a deal, or you owe me one. We have to stop being selfish people!!

Why don't you give that a try. You will have one hell of a fight on your hands.
