Last one for today Update our Wayne county web site, post up to date info on crime, education of citizens, industry, schools ect. If the truth hurts fix it.
Advertise our county as a place of new beginings and a great place to grow.Hi light our transportations routes offer incentives.
Get tourism going let people see how great we are and how much better we could be

About 4 years ago the county commission hired a firm to do a study. The results were to be used for recruitment of business.
There were some things that were negatives for new employers that could be addressed.
The education level in Wayne County is very low. That is one that can be fixed.
The per capita amounts of workers compensation claims was very high for a county our size. That should be fixed as it scares off possible new employers.
This one shocked me a little. On that study they checked the amount of children receiving subsidized Lunches in the school system. I am not really sure what part that plays in recruitment.
One thing that stood out and cant be fixed. Our lack of access to an interstate for shipping. I would hope that the expansion of Hwy 64 will help that.
Just foot for thought.

Do you mean more people?
More retirees need more healthcare and services.
More working age folks mean more schools, more places to work, or more help finding out of area work.
Who supplies and who do they sell to?
What product needs do people here have?
What can people here make than is cheapier than that already made in Mexico or China and shipped in?
Maby thats the question?
What can we do that they (the business that make in a foreign land and sell here) cant do as well?

Good luck with all that !!!!

1 People yes
2 retirees sure their money is comming in from somewhere else
3 working age people sure need them too will lower the median age in the county--younger fresher ideas
4 more industry heck yes---we have industrial parks lets fill them up
5 what type---3 different types for three cities
6 this depends on the industry that we bring in
7 we have the same needs as anyone else in this country
8 what can we make cheaper here ---well if the government has its way it will be more expensive to import products in the future so with our cheaper cost of living we wouldnt require as much money per hour as say those in the north
9 what can we do that they cant---we could get up off our collective butts and have a positive attitude and fix some things here
for starters would be to lower the crime rate as well as the drugs here
we could advertise our positive points hunt out and find companies willing to start up new branches here--find the governmental perks for the companies.
the truckstop on 64 was a great idea as would be the rv camp grounds--more tourists
Id bet the old timers at McDonalds would have a few good ideas there are ideas everywhere but I never see anyone bringing them up

well folks i got my answer back today from pilot co in knoxville. i had emailed to director@waynecounty and asked why dont they get in touch with pilot about putting a truck stop on the new highway 64. that was on about nov 22. and i got a answer back from someone named tom. who told me that pilot had been contacted . and that pilot franchises their truck stops, if someone had the money and the desire- he would set them up with the industry. he thanked me for my interest in our county and said for me to visit his office at the columbia state in clifton. when i posted his answer, i beleve it was bored that told me pilot does not franchise. so i contacted pilot myself. i got their answer today. They DO NOT offer franchise. and if I knew of available property in the area, the owner or real estate office can email them with the following information. (to long to print it all) they would review it and determine if they had a interest in it... weather they would be interested or not i dont have a clue. but this just showed me how easy we can be lied to by a person who has wayne countys interest.

Understanding and meeting needs is the foundation of our economy. We no longer export we no longer sell to others. If your going to build business, and jobs and real ecomonic growth be prepared to sell to the people next door.
You know the ones with less money than 10 years ago.

sorry "I care" I cut and pasted your post thought it belonged here too
I checked the school only 2 Toms listed and one Thomas under c f and h--but that doesnt mean it has been updated

"but this just showed me how easy we can be lied to by a person who has wayne countys interest."
Well I sure he didnt lie to you, but that it was too complicated for you to understand so he shortened it.
After all he is on our payroll.

Yea bring in those RETIRED people and lets sponge off their pension checks. The drug stores and nursing homes might just be able to expand . What does Wayne Co. have that all those rich retired people would want to see ?? You can find trees and water anywhere. We don't have a monopoly on any of this. Unless we have a better idea than this we aren't going anywhere.
#17 Dec 5, 2010
WELL YOU EXPLAIN IT TO ME SINCE IT HAD TO BE SHORTENED FOR THIS OLD WOMAN TO UNDERSTAND. HE SAID PILOT ONLY DOES FRANCHISE. PILOT SAYS THEY DO NOT FRANCHISE.SO IF THATS NOT A LIE THAN WHAT DO YOU CALL IT? UNCOMLICATE THAT AND EXPLAIN IT TO ME.
#18 Dec 5, 2010
lol you tell em
you know if we put half the effort into going somewhere that is put into being negitative this would never be a topic on topix
so much easier to sit and complain than to do something about it
most people are vocal about things for a week or so then they drop it no follow through-----when people stop listening then it is no fun so they move on to something else
just dont get it---more people more industry more money for everyone---sure beat dieing

Well he was put there by the big boys you know elected folk at the state level. They seem to divert any new industry to their (investments) area along I 40 in west TN and away from Wayne county. Our elected officials dont work for us. Does a rich man making his money on a state controlled program represent you? How do you identify with a doctor or a professional political sponge? During election cycles the attention shifts to patriotic stuff and away from jobs bread and butter because it works..........
The good doctor and the professional sponge would never be elected otherwise.
Have you ever had a doctor explain anything to you in detail? doesnt happen often
The sponge needs to be squeezed & dried out.

I know for a fact that property on the "new" 64 sitting adjacent to the "Grace Industry" has been offered up. I think there is over 12 acres there.
