Just read the WCNews today. The little "meet the candidates," article where they ask answer a question or 2 was in there for 2nd Dist School Board. Noticed that Dwight Bumphus wasn't available to answer quesions. To me, that says a lot about how interested he is in running and in the school board position. Did the Newspaper not know they could contact Hal Clark or Tracy Love (or really Sherri as she wears the pants... so to speak) to answer questions for him? or if they are in the office on the weekend or Wed night, someone at the COC could surely answer questions also.

I like Dwight and he's a good friend. Have run into him a 3 times in the last week and he's not said a word about the election, vote for him etc. Have also ran into Hal Clark twice and he asked me to vote for Dwight both times.

What is the average persons income in Wayne County and how much do the school board members get paid for their one meeting per month that lasts 15 to 20 minutes.
If it isn't alot then why would someone be on it unless they had a vested interest in helping our kids. These school board members are voted into office yet the schools superintendent isn't an elected position (by the people) and gets paid how much?
Ill be interested to see if anyone looks the answers to my questions up and then posts them

If you've read some of the first post in this thread, some of those questions have been covered. I'm not sure what the School Board Members get paid, but I know it's not much and very moot for the responsibility (and headache) they have to put up with. I would be surprised if they got $50 a meeting. The superintendent is appointed by the school board because several years ago the Tennessee State Legislature passed a bill requiring all 95 counties to appoint their Supt by their respective School Boards instead of electing them in a General Election. Some argued that that would let the Supt do a better job by not having to take time out of their job to do the campaining that is necessary to run an Election Campaign. Thing is that I'm sure in most every county there is no qualifications to be elected to the School Board other than the general residency requirement that is true of any County office.

Marcus I went back and read the earlier posts as you told me to. I did not find one of my questions answered---commented on---yes--but as to the fact that the supt is voted in which seems then that a job that pays so much would have loyalities to the ones that gave them the job not loyalities to the people they are supposed to represent.
Here are the questions I asked.
1. Average income for a person in Wayne County.
2. What do school board members get paid per meeting?
3.Why would someone be on the board.
4.What is the Supertendants annual income (to see if it is close to the same as the peopel who live
here).
All the rest of my post were comments---like I said I went back through all the posts and could not find one of my questions answered. If you know the answers please post them---Wayne county wants to know
3.

In response to the The Thinker.#1. The average income for a Wayne County median household in 2003 was $27,266 dollars. This is the most up to date info on household income that can be found via internet. The information can be found on waynecountytn.org #2. As of now the current group of members receive $100 dollars each per meeting whether they are present or not. They also receive mileage compensation for travel
to these meetings. In the past the group of members received $50 dollars per meeting and in 2008 a raise of %100 was somehow given to each member and so far I haven't found any records that identify who approved the raise.#3 To the best of my knowledge this would or could be answered by anyone and their own personal opinion. I think that most of the people in these positions do it for reasons that represent power and control over who is or who will be hired into the school system. This usually represents Nepotism and several cases of Nepotism can or could be proven if only the ones investigating wasn't the members themselves.#4. as for the superintendent's income it is knowhere even close to the average income of a household in Wayne county. The budget to be approved for the superintendent's salary for the coming year is $82,682 dollars. If you do some research you will see that in 2005 the income for the Wayne County School Superintendent was $74,094 dollars. To the best of my knowledge everything I have quoted is correct and is public information accessible by anyone.

In response to you Jim. If Dwight is your good friend, he shouldn't have to ask you to vote for him, thats a no brainer. Hal Clark shouldn't even have to recommend for you to vote for someone who is your friend either. I will definitely vote for Dwight and I really dont know him well but he is without a doubt the best candidate from this district. I say vote for Dwight have him elected, it's time for a change. I do know Joe Treece and what he stands for, and I could write a 1000 pages on his unethical behavior in the past and present. He is without a doubt the biggest reason I have started voting again.

Thank you
I am so glad that someone else has found that information besides myself.
I would also like to thank you for your response --the fact that it was exactly in the order that I asked the questions as well stayed on topic. Very refreshing.
Now to one of my earlier posts.
The fact that the supertendant makes more than three times the average income in Wayne county.
I am wondering if it were me in that position if my loyalities would be with the people who gave me this job or with the people I am supposed to represent? If it was me in this position My loyalities would be with the people of Wayne County.
But again thank you for a refreshing response.

Frankly, I think this topic is being blown out of porportion. Most of you "sophisticated, concerned voters" that are downing the members & asking irrelevant questions are probably parents who presently or have had children in the Wayne County school system in the past & were never concerned about how much they were paid or their qualifications. Truth be known, probably are more involved in this website than participation in your child's studies.

Wow - imagine that - a parent with a child in Wayne County School System writing on this topic and concerned about the goings on in the school - Skeeter, you're a genius! Question for you, Skeeter, you don't see anything wrong with the "members"?

If they're elected to the position, they deserve to serve their term. Why are people on here concerned about how much they get paid or other things that people just want to be nosy about because it's election year.

People may be concerned due to the fact that the superintendent makes over 4 times what the average Wayne Countian makes and it seems that most people are not pleased with the job she is doing. The fact that taxpayers cannot elect the superintendent may also be an issue. That position is appointed by School Board Members - and most of them don't have ALL the students' best interest at heart. Have you gone to a School Board Meeting? It doesn't look like parents are able to say what's wrong because the members don't let them speak.

Skeeter,
Unbelievable,"If they're elected to the position, they deserve to serve their term" Term yes but 30 years come on. Why do you think that there is a limit to how many terms the President of the United States can be in office for.
As for the money questions those were to get people to think about what the driving force or reason was to stay in these positions (Board members)I do think that 3 time the annual income of the average citizen is alittle too much dont you.

what ! Wanda Johnston makes 82 g's a year ,I had no idea that an idiot could make so much money. With that much loot you would think that she could do something about that face , I mean it looks like she went to Baskins Robbins and fell face first into the superman flavor ice cream and never wiped it off because she is so senile she forgot, he he he!! Wanda your too old to make a rational decision, too weak to stand up alone and just dumb enough to make us all laugh. So farewell because after all the things that you have done to hurt the school system and most importantly the kids you shouldn't have a snowballs chance in hell of retaining your position but hey what do I know I only make 26,000 a year ?
