Don't tell me people don't have money in this area. By the number of people that show up nightly for this kind of junk, we should never be holding our hands out to the goverment for any help and our school systems should never be going without. I hope the money raised from this sewer trap will be used to really educate the fire department and not be waisted on more junk.A little training on how to be a good neighbor would be good also.

Great place to assemble and have goodtimes, food, and meet old friends. My hat's off to the hard work and dedication these men have shown over the years. Don't know where all this venom is coming from Pam1. This is your blueprint Franklin County Fair officals - take a lesson :) That's all.

You are very rude. This is the one big event Mont Alto has every year. It has been very sucessful and goes to providing new equipment and training to the fire department and IT'S MOSTLY VOLUNTEER. Have some respect if you don't like the noise or being good neighbors buy some ear plugs or go visit your friend. They are doing a great job and hope from me for continued sucess.

The fair is always a good time for the kids, but as a mom..I'm inspecting everything. And I wouldn't put my daughter on 1/2 those rides. I stood at the bottom of one ride with a couple who were both commenting on the condition of the ride their sons were on. And the awful Cranking, squeaking, clanking" noise coming from it. The mom looked at me and said, "Wow, I wonder how often they inspect these things?"
Yea, me too..
But the cotton candy was good

I just took my two girls there last night and we had a blast. I have gone to the Mont Alto carnival since I can remember and have always enjoyed myself. I will continue to go every year. It does help a worthy cause. You never know when you are going to need those volunteers to help you. I am glad they take the time and energy to do this every year.

While we shouldn’t throw stones at people for voicing their opinions, but I need to stand on a soapbox too. How quickly this select group of dedicated people went from “HERO” status after 9-11, to being accused of being owners of a sewer trap!
These folks are VOLUNTEERS helping the community they live in, making it BETTER and SAFER by risking their lives. Also be aware that not everyone working there is a member of the fire department, they are just neighbors wanting to help neighbors. And some are members of other county fire departments, just helping their rescue service brothers and sisters.
Keep in mind that the services provided by this department, and the other departments in the county, could all be "Employees" whose salaries come from your tax dollars.
Yes it’s noisy, and the traffic is inconvenient but it's 9 days, but I think the benefits far outweigh inconvenience.
Be a good neighbor and thank a firefighter / EMT the next time you see one or better yet get involved and help keep the big red trucks responding to emergencies. I release my hold on the soap box, Thank you!

Do they really need it to be 9 days? Can't they just hold it over a weekend or something?

There will be at least four[4] festivals this summer and in July, there is going to be tractor pulls. Oh well, I didn't buy a home to retire to and relax. No peace and quite in this town any more and don't forget all the gun drawings all year long. When do we ever have time to train to fight "FIRES".Maybe we should change the name to The Mont Alto Entertainment Center. You know, you can even get alcoholic refreshments at some of these events and this is a dry town.No sale of alcohol permitted.

Sounds like you didn't research the area before you decided to buy a house and move here. Sorry for the inconvenience. Maybe you should start a campaign to change the town to the way you think it should be. Too bad so many in the area are not like you and enjoy the things you like. Let me apologize for the inconsiderate people that put on such annoying and scandalous acts in your town.

Maybe you could consider moving.

Well Pam, before throwing stones, maybe you should check with the fine officers/ members of Co 5. In addition to the thousands of hours raising funds, they also spend countless hours training every month.

I guess to make you happy, the VFD's need to just quit ALL fund raisers and either stop responding on calls OR tax you for the services they do provide and see how you whine and cry then!!!!

And guess what, they are no violating the law when it comes to alcoholic beverages!!!!!!

Pam first of you have to have training to ride the fire trucks and amublances and you have to keep up with those certifications that you get. Second they have a permit to sell alcoholic beverages at the events. All of the events are not noisy like the carnival. They were here way before you so move! I hope that you never need help after the bashing you did, my husband, and friends but there lives on the line to save ignorant people like you because they want to do it. So instead of complaining about them raising money why don't you go see what it is all about and what all it takes to raise money or we can stop the fund raising and take it from you by paying more taxes.

Dry town means just that.No sale of alcohol by anyone for any reason. The taxpayers of that town would have to vote in favor of alcoholic sales and then the state would have to give them a license. Most fire departments also have in their bylaws, no alcoholic beverages on their properties, due to Jr. members and insurance reasons. As for fund raisers, sometimes they get out of hand and you forget that you do have neighbors that might be older,or sickly, and they didn't sign on for all the noise.Really, reading your town history, the fire department came after the town was formed and for a good reason. So,once again, remember why you came into existence, and serve the public that you so adamanly say you want to serve, without making threats to those who have differant opinions.

I am not making any threats, I am merely stating my opinion and as for the fire department came, I was not specific, I meant it was there before she moved in and I do agree with you on some issues. I just don't like it when people bash people who could one day save there life. How may of you here now would go into a burning building when you are taught to go out. Not many except for those who are trained to do so. I for one am not, I do however worry about those who do including my husband. So if you took my opinion as a threat then I am sorry.

It is held 9 days because of the chance of "rain outs", just like the forecasts predict for the remainder of this week. And most ride companies won’t move into an area unless they have the opportunity to operate for 5 or 6 days.
This ride company Penn Wood arrives several days ahead and uses the “downtime” as their maintenance preventive maintenance period. Saves us from the erector set syndrome as was mentioned earlier.
Oh, if your are still reading pam1, don’t forget the FIREWORKS they are scheduled for 9:30 PM Friday!

You know, all these carnivals happen the same time of year every single year. Maybe all the folks who don't like them should plan ahead and go on vacation. Carnivals in Mont Alto, Greencastle, Shippensburg, and Mercersburg have been going on for YEARS!! They are going away so deal with it. Thanks to all of the volunteer firefighters and EMT's.
