Just like big government, they always want to control people. I think that people who live in town ought to vote the councilmen out of office. The people who own their property have the right to have yard sales when ever they want. The last time I looked on any deed, it did not have another name like city of Chambersburg on the property owners deed. Over reaching city government. I think it is over the money they are not getting from the yard sales. That is why they want permits, to keep track.Next they will want you to have a permit to breath!!!!That is why I do not live in the city of Chambersburg, thank God!!!!
Perhaps the majority of people in town are in favor of this ordinance!

number one: times arent that tough that you need to hold a yard sale to make ends meet; all the time and effort it takes to hold one, go find a parttime job on the weekends
number two: any normal person would only have about one or two a year; i personally have ever held one in my whole 37 years of life, i would rather donate my items i no longer need to charity or pass it down to friends and family
number three: mont alto passed the ordinance because a certain individual was attending storage shed auctions; they pay 50 bucks and get a whole shed full of someones elses stuff; then trun around on the weekends and make 50 times more profit off of it. thats a business

well if they are going to control the yard sales than they need to controll the hoarders on our street. we have a family of 4 that live on wilson ave.these people have so much junk in their yard and in the house that even the show hoarders would cringe on, their garage out back is full of all kinds of crawling and running creatures,it is gross the house is so full of papers old computor carriages and cars in the back yard over grown trees and shrubs and broken sidewalks, to top this all of. at night the creatures roam,RATS are gross and these people get away with it.I have been told that he sits on the boro of chambersburg. they young adult children that live in this house are not allowed to have friends over. because of the filth. this place will take all about twenty years to clean up and over 6,000 tractor and trailers to clean it up. It is in chambersburg on wilson ave the adress is 101* oops i missed a number. IF YOU READ THIS CLEAN UP YOUR MESS CAUSE WE ARE TIRED OF FINDING CREATURES LARGE AND SMALL WONDERING AROUND OUR NEIGHBORHOOD

Nice idea, too bad it wouldn't work in Guilford Township. The Supervisors-for-Life would have to stop patting themselves on the back long enough to create an ordinance with teeth. Enforcement would be,'whatever'. And the result? Remove yard junk in Guilford? How could one tell the difference? The Scenic Rt. 30 Greenway, Duffield Estates and Pond Bank Gardens are all in a class by themselves. Their motto: We don't need no stupid permits! And the greenies complain that strip mining destroys the beauty of Appalachia.

why are people complaining about yard sales so much if u look there is a lot of good things being sold why? because senior didnt get a raise on their social security for 3 long years but the cost of everything went up and it might be a way to buy medicine and food so all u rich people stop complaining about yard sales remember u are gonna get old someday and remember there may not be any social security then cry cry cry u may need a yard sale to surveve

When I'm old, I'll probably sell my junk like most people do today - on Craigslist.

Nothing against yard sales here, although I'd argue a lot of people - seniors particularly - intentionally price their junk to not sell. I think yard sales make some people feel a little better about their hoarding. "I tried at least." Yeah,$5 for old McDonald's glassware?$2-$3 for old VHS movies and cassette tapes? I've been to yard sales where they're actually selling those free AOL CD's everyone got hundreds of in the 90's. People need to just throw some stuff out...

Sure, there's an occasional gem, but if you have stuff you actually want to sell, Craigslist is a much better option.

What we really need in Chambersburg is a FLEA MARKET!!!

A lot of the regular Garage Sale gang would be happy to have a permanent booth somewhere.

Williams Grove rocks every weekend! There is a big flea market in Mercersburg - why not Chambersburg?

With the price of gas - its way more efficeint to have all the sellers in one place...rather than having all of us driving all over the county to look at baby clothes.

A flea market would be very cool and, I would think, popular in this area. Heck, where in an agricultural hub and the local farmer's markets are sad to say the least. I feel like there's more local interest for a lot of things that may not have gone over as well 5, 10, 20 years ago.
