But isn't this type of thing impossible?

I've been told that law-abiding citizens are responsible with their guns.

I've been told that people who have been trained to handle weapons properly are of no threat to anyone.

I've been told that only the mentally ill and criminals use guns irresponsibly and dangerously.

It's almost like the pro-gun lobby isn't being honest with us.

This is EXACTLY the place for a gun debate. That's what Topix is for - debating the news, and this is a news article.

If someone brought a gun debate into the obituary page, that would be completely inappropriate. But here - I'm doing what this place was set up for. You can be saddened by a news report and still debate the cause of the tragedy.

Do you have inside information as to the mental state of the police officer? If not, you are assuming far too much. Just because he is a police officer does not mean he could be suffering from a mental disorder. Anyone that kills their family obviously is mentally ill.

Your goal and people like you want guns out of everyone's hands. Well guess what? The criminal and terrorists will ALWAYS have them.

While we are on the subject...how about doing away with alcohol. How many people are killed by drunk drivers? Well guess what? More people are killed by drunks behind a wheel then people with guns. So lets get out there and put a stop to alcohol. Then lets go after people that eat too much meat, you know it's not good for your heart, it causes a lot of deaths. We can then go after the orchatds, all those pesticides aren't healthy to breath. After we do that lets try and stop whatever else we feel is a problem, before you know it, we will have nothing, maybe then people like you will be happy.

The bottom line is you are opposed to guns for whatever reason...maybe it's because you can't think for yourself and it's what the left does.... follows without knowing why.. Liberals are very unhappy people for whatever reason and love forcing their opinions and beliefs on everyone else. They believe only the government knows best. Liberals are sad, pathetic people that are clueless.

Okay, then the NRA solution to gun violence based on preventing those with mental illness from getting guns isn't a solution at all, is it?

I mean, if this man was mentally ill, how would the NRA plan have prevented him from having access to guns?

It's almost like the NRA isn't being honest about the solution.

False.

This is a complete fabrication. I have never said anything like that.

Quit making strawman attacks and be serious about this issue.

Overreact much?

The fact is that everything that has threatens the health and safety of the American people is regulated.

Everything except guns. Why is that? Why do we regulate pesticides and alcohol and food safety but not guns?

Another asinine strawman.

Another unprovoked personal attack from a stranger.

What the hell is wrong with you rightwingers? Why can't you have a civil, decent debate on this issue? Why do you personally attack people you've never even talked to before?

Is your argument really so weak that you have to resort to personal attacks instead of defending it with facts and evidence?

Are you so threatened by an opposing voice that you have to abusively shut down anyone who dares disagree with your pro-gun orthodoxy?

Seriously - grow the hell up.

Really? Like when? Where have I done that?

Can you prove your allegation or is it just another blind personal attack from a rightwinger who can't debate on the facts?

Well look what I found... Dan wants proof, yet he can't give me proof when he accused me of being an America hater. Poor guy, all I did was correct him on the unemployment numbers and he comes firing back that I hate America and I root against America. I asked him to prove it. He couldn't, so his response was "it's my opinion based on logical reasoning", can you believe this clown?

My heart breaks for the 18 year old son, how horrific it must have been to be caught up in such a senseless situation. I wish him a speedy physical and mental recovery.
