<quoted text>Thank you this was exactly what I was talking about.this was the situation for so many kids and the majority DON'T get books for home schooling so they don't get a GED either. This BOE has destroyed the lives of many and I don't see how they can sleep at night. But as we all know Adkins passes out and the rest medicate in some form or fashion.
Totally agree!!! Pulling my son out of BMS to home school him was the best decision ever! You are right, we haven't received books to help home school.... they actual came out and refused to give books so far. That's okay, we are shopping around. I'm not letting my child's education suffer. I am SO GLAD to have my son away from that school. His self-esteem is returning, he is actually studying and doing school work, and he is talking about college plans once he gets his GED. He seems happier than he has been. He doesn't have to deal with the bullying.

Call the Superintendant of Schools in Charleston and tell them about your situation and they will help now.

Is the state going to take over Wayne County Schools? It sounds like other members of the board's office clan, needs to follow him.
Is Jerry Workman one of the high paid consultants?

I do not agree with a teacher saying negative things to student. However, why is it ok for the parent to suggest a GED to a student and it is wrong if a teacher suggest a GED to a student? Some students refuse to do what the system requires and a GED is far better than dropping out and getting nothing! Everyone gets in an uproar if a teacher suggest a GED program to a student and sometimes it is what is best for the kid!!!

GED is not ideal. I would rather my son have a high school diploma, however the school has failed my son. They did not do their job of protecting him from being bullied. My son went through the steps, he cooperated and told who was doing the bullying but because those kids were in sports noting was done.I went to the school and talked about the bullying they would agree my son does get bullied then ask for names and guess what, NOTHING was done. Hello, in MIDDLE school these kids are getting special treatment because they are in sports. On top of all of that if I had a question about my son's grades or assignments I was directed to a website. If I had other questions I was treated like I was a burden and normally I never got a straight answer to my question. Is a GED the best for my son? In normal circumstances, no, however in this circumstance the GED is a better option. The GED is a better option not because my son but because of the school's failure. He is a very smart kid who loves science. He is doing well in homeschooling because he doesn't have to deal with the bullying.

I would like to ad, jerry workman tried to convince me to quit school, told me it was in my best interest and the interest of other students because i was helping to bring down their average and it would affect funding...so if i stayed, it was at the cost of my friends. I am not the only one he said that to either. I was very shocked to learn he was given an asst superintendent job.

By the way, i was a kid who was homeless, always maintained high grades and represented the school in sports. But my grades started to suffer when I didnt have a place to live. The cafeteria would give me free food. Workman knew my situation and told me to quit and get a job. He didnt call cps or try to help me at all. I would like to add that I did not quit and went all the way to grad school.

So yes, teachers and staff have a direct impact on the drop out rate.
As a matter of fact, the dean of the high schools is just as bad, no ideas of how to handle the.discipline problems occuring. I had problems with my child all of a sudden becoming a hateful monster of a kid and when speaking with this man, I realized he had no plan of action, didnt know how to handle the alternative school feeding more discipline problems into the school and wasnt worried that my high gpa child was all of a sudden having issues and grades were dropping. Right now, i cant even get 2 vp to return my calls about concerns i have for my 4.0 student- child and i have called 6 times! Talk about laziness!
When is the next board meeting? I know a lot of stuff and maybe if we all put our minds together, we can cover each loser BOE Member and get rid of them all!
Currently, there is a coach on payroll who has been convicted of stealing money from a fundraiser for cancer kkds. He has beeen coaching for several years but only recently got his wvssac certification, even aftwr i questioned lynn hurt about it years ago and was told he had it.

As far as bullying, someone needs to look at the teachers and staff.

People, the state is looking at Wayne County right now. They were going to take the county if Adkins didn't leave but are putting it off until they see who the board elects and what the intentions are. For those of us that feel we need change NOW - call State Superintendent Marple's office and let them know we need their help!

Encouraging students to drop out is wrong. I do my best to encourage my students that this is the one shot they have at proper high school education. Some students will not listen. Most of the time it is a failure to view the future. Teachers friends and everyone's else in their lives should encourage them to finish. The situation that saddens me is when this desire stems from the home life. Schools have much less power to influence a students mind that the home. Like the people above say make some noise and fight injustice in schools. Please I also encourage you to do so through the proper channels.

A stable home life and a effective educational system is the perfect world for few of us.Thats why it takes everyone working together to make the much needed change our kids deserve. It takes parents and teachers working together to help navigate a childs developing years to place them on a positive path in life. And sometimes it just takes one or the other to make all difference in one childs life.School was my refuge from the dysfunction that went on in my home growing up and I had a few teachers who made all the difference in my life just by treating me as special as all the other students. That told me I was as important as the others which wasn't what I was use to hearing at home.It really does take a village to raise a child.

Dang the hay ride is over. The state dept. and Marple has made its decision. They said all staff must be shot on site, all school buildings torn down, and all students sent home to their perfect parents to be home schooled so they can learn how to live off the system like the rest of Americas 47%.

So, do you agree with me or not?
Who thought telling students not to drop out, and to stand up for the students was clueless as I was judged so?

Because sometimes a student is 17 in middle school and getting ready to drop out....or sometimes it is their 5th or 6th year of being in middle school and refusing to do a single assignment. Remember there is always two sides to every story and students rarely go home and tell the exact truth. You can change a few choice words when you repeat a story and change the entire meaning.

How nice of you to acknowledge the positive side of your school experience. More often than not, people could have 50 decent teachers and 1 that did not live up to expectations and they talk as if every teacher they had was horrible.

Is the state going to take over the county? Are any charges going to be made against Gary. Did Jerry Workman fall on the job and is he getting comp as a consultant?

as far as the state taking over, there is a distinct possibility. As for charges against Mr. Adkins, that would be something that would be played close to the chest until its more or less done. As far as something illegal he has done, no one has come public with it, plenty of rumors and allegations-i never believe them until something official comes out or I am presented with credible evidence. I have not heard about any issue with Jerry Workman.

I hope the family court is part of the courthouse that falls. Steven Lewis has torn many families apart and hurt countless children with his rulings.
