Gary Adkins resign ? Well that may be a start, but I think EVERY damn one of them on the board needs replaced. If the members are not part of the solution, they're part of the problem. I have not seen any solutions out of the entire bunch, have you ?

honestly, you should vote yes. it'll give wayne high a new track and turf, 8 new classrooms and an auxiliary gym. I know it'll give SVHS and THS new turf but I'm not sure what else... and I know CK will get a combined elementary school. every school will get something, which they need. Wayne high has classrooms in trailers .. and the track is terrible. you need to vote yes!

What about the roof leaking. The doors locked with chains and pad locks. The Bathrooms falling apart. I could go on for days Wayne high school is in bad shape and so is a lot of other schools. They put the turf in for votes. How will the turf help. Did you read last weekends wayne county news and see all the money they spent on motels, food, and other waste. Retired employes that they are paying its a joke. you want to give them 33,000,000 more they get 97,000,000 a year now.

If you would do your homework, you would realize that the bond money can only be spent on the items that are listed on the bond. Yes, the schools have other issues such as leaks and so forth. However, these repairs come from a different set of money. The bond is needed. If you compare our schools to other counties, you will realize that we are in need. As far as the increase in tax, you will spend that money in gas, eating out, buying cigarrettes, etc. Why not spend that money in helping our schools? As stated in an earlier post, be part of the solution and not part of the problem. The bond levy is needed.

Do not hold your dislike for Mr. Adkins and the BOE against our kids in Wayne Co. by not supporting the bond. The kids cannot help the things that go on or control the people that do them.

I have always been a supporter of education and have never voted against a levy. I am having a problem this time however with the 3 million dollar price tag for artificial turf. Really??? And how much will it be used? Only half the games are played at home. I know it would be nice but I see it as a luxury item that we can't afford. Wouldn't that 3 million be better spent on something ALL the kids could use? Books, lockers, roofs that don't leak, computers, clean restrooms etc. Talk to the kids and listen to what THEY complain about. It's not the turf on the football field!

Once again, do your homework. If you live around Wayne, you would know that the field is used more than just on fall Friday nights. The midget league, and middle school use it too. Also, Relay for Life, Wayne County Special Olympics, Wayne County Kids Day, the JROTC, the band, all use the field. The field has had as many as 5 games in one week. (midget league, 8th grade, 9th grade, JV and varsity games) Also, Wayne Middle school field day, and middle school and high school PE classes use the field. It is also a landing pad for the Health NET helicopter. And, the high school has graduation on it too. These are the things I can just think of off the top of my head. At one time, and its been a year or so, I saw something published that it cost about 20,000 to maintain the field to the condition it is in. And, the football program pays most of that.

I agree with the above post. I know the schools need a lot, but I also know that there is different money for those things. The community really does use the fields and I know the Spring Valley and Tolsia communities use their fields too.

You forgot track and field events, Meet the Pioneers, and events at the school like Spring Fling.

Please remember though that Wayne High gets 8 new class rooms and an auxilary building, and Tolsia gets an auxilary building too. Wayne High School is crowded and needs the space.

Why don't we worry about air conditioning in the gyms before we worry about new turf on the fields. The gyms are used all day every day!!

I noticed on my last tax forms that Wayne County Schools already has a Special excess levy that Expires in 2014 and it was for 5 years, when I called the court house and ask what it was for they told me it was for:
textbooks,materials & supplies $622,077
heating,lighting,construction & repairs $559,869
salaries & benefits $6,133,682
current expenses $58,744
Total School Board ****$7,374,372***

My daughter goes to SVHS and they DO NOT have enough textbooks for each student, so don't ask for more money when it is not used in the right manner or where there is need. And turf REALLY!!!
Ask Tom Gibson to donate so he can get a few more coaches that his son grew up with. It would be different if they could win a championship.

So what if the football teams pays most of it? It's their field. There are other school teams who pay way more than the football team to play their sport. It seems that the football player and their parents need to flip the bill if they want turf but it shouldn't be the tax payer.

Wayne County students don't have textbooks for core subjects, paper, pencils, most classrooms don't even have a pencil sharpener. And you, want us to concern ourselves with turf? Really? You can't be this obtuse or expect Wayne county tax payers to be either? Either you're a coach or a parent who really needs to get their priorities straight. Either way do the students a favor and go the way of Gary Adkins. This county can't afford anymore of his supporters. Really, the coffers are empty.

The reality is the county did not have the money to pay for those trailers. They should have made the decision to divide the students and the staff between the three elementary schools. That would have been the right decision. However, then they would have to explain where the are spending their money.

The kenova trailers are decent but will degrade quickly. They are temporary. I am sorry but the small schools need to merge. It would be a transportation nightmare, but a school with small numbers get small money. There are certain base fees associated with being a 21st century school that costs the same no matter what funding you have. Compare the per student of say Wayne middle and c-k middle. I acknowledge that sports are important, but they are second place compared to academics. I refuse to send my children to a school that focuses more on sports than academics.
