My boyfriend and I want to go fishing a couple times this summer because we just bought a small boat. Do we need fishing licenses? They're about $25 each, and if we don't absolutely need them, I don't want to shell out $50 just to fish a few times at Beech Fork. Does anyone patrol or check for licenses? Do they have daily passes? It seems like a lot of money and hassle just to do something that should be free.

I would recommend a license. A resident fishing license is cheap and it's a lot less expensive to buy one than get caught w.o one. They do check at randomly at different spots. The whole point of paying for a license is so the state can afford to stock trout, take care of different fishing operations, etc. do it goes to a good cause anyway. You also need your boating license if you were born after 1986. Make sure you know your Boston regulations such as life jackets, fire extinguisher, etc.
Appreciate and respect our outdoors.

The WVDNR actually designates a couple days of the year as free fishing days. Go to Wal-Mart and get a regulations book (free) and look up exactly what days it is.
I would NOT recommend fishing without a license, as stated earlier, they are much cheaper than the fine. Besides alot of the fee goes to Conservation and such. In my experience once you start goin' you'll get your use out of them because you'll realize the fun you'll have fishing with your significant other.
