My grandmother lived in the Charter House about 15 years ago. It was a good place to live. Norma, who runs the place is very good to the people who live there. She has activities, dinners, and helps many of the people who come to her. Norma and her sister Joanna should really be appreciated for all that they do contribute to the Charter House. It's not Norma's fault people lie and give false references when moving in. I have not heard of any robbing there and if someone is disrespectful, they do not stay there long. Bless you Norma and Joanna for all you do for the tenants at the Charter House!!

My sister lived there and could not even do her laundry. Either they would go into her apt. and steal everything or if she checked on her apt. then the laundry would be gone. I am glad she is out of that place. It also smells. UGH.

Sounds like someone needs to make a call to HUD. If it is no longer a safe environment and you've seen it for yourself then do the right thing. Make it safe for those that do live there.

I wouldn't say it is not a safe place to live drugs are everywhere. there is all kinds of people there with health problems young and old with this comes legal drugs this has came a problem but it is being worked on. there is some very wonderful people there and they have been there for twenty years some from day one. Norma has guide lines from hud and her bosses that she has to go by credit checks police records are checked out if nothing comes back she has to rent to them if she hears something bad about the person she can ask them about it but she can't take hear say. she is a good judge of character but she dose have bosses

She has also had a stroke and isn't the best judge of anything right now. I don't think it is a good place to live, and not much of a place to work. Some of the girls who do in home health care get harassed alot. Whether they do anything or not get talked about. That place is as bad as this for gossip and if they don't know the truth they will make it up.

Norma is a very good person she works really hard to hard for her age (71) and health she goes to Ky on sundays to cook and clean her sister;s house who is eighty and husband 83. i can think of two maybe three health girls that would get talked about cause it was something that they said or did.
they also have health girls that come in that are just wonderful to the ones that they work for and are nice to everyone. The charer house has been sold the new owners will take over the end of this month and will start remodeling july 2. it is a corperaing out of cleveland oh. that has bough it.
once someone gets in a hud building it is hard to get them out if you don't see and know for sure what they are doing. it is that old thing called proof. and when they have it papers are filed at the court house to put them out. if they don't have proof they try to talk to the family menbers and ask them to get them to move. and this is where the gosip and the bad mouthing comes from about the charter house the family don't want to deal with them that is why they move them in anyway to get them out of their hair. they do try but drugs are everywhere, eastlynn is talked about really bad I don't know anyone that lives there but i am sure that there is sone good people that lives there,

no on has been killed beaten or hurt there
one lady had her check stolen but she had given the man her box key he was soon removed the same man took money from a blind elderly person he was supposedly been helping also a ring from another he was removed as quickly has they could get it done.
that was over six years ago and Norma was not there at that time. there is a man there that goes around saying he has been robbed but he also sees thing that no one else dose. as far as his money
one of his family members is taking it. he won't believe it he would rather say someone else took it.
but it happens to often no one goes in his apartment but family.

I was told today that they are having trouble just getting some of the people help. One of the ladies is not able to dump the bucket under her air conditioner and Norma was afraid to ask just anyone as there are so many in there taking other peoples perscription meds when they get the chance. I hope the new people taking over will stop alot of what is going on there. I know a lot of the people who had been there a long time have moved out and more are talking about it because they don't feel safe. I had one person who lives there tell me that people have started doing drug deals on the parking lot at night, boy that would make you feel really safe. What if a drug deal goes bad and a stray bullet goes in someones door or window. I just pray I never have to live there.

I have empty the bucket for her myself when i have been there. the parking lot has cleared out a lot.
they have been told that the police is watching it.
oce person that had sold his meds to an outsider will be moving soon, the new people will take over soon then Norma can retire and get the rest she badly needs, she really loves the people at the Charter House and would do anything to keep them happy and safe .

I thought you had to be either elderly or disabled to live there?

You have to be 50 or disabled to live at the charterhouse. I also think it will be good when Norma retires, she is not looking well. I think she needs to rest also. As for things getting better at the charter house, I don't know about that. Heard some people talking two days ago about the fact that you can't hang anything on the doors anymore. It use to be a practice that if you had something for someone or had borrowed something you could put it in a bag and leave it on that persons door and it would never be bothered. Now you can't do that for fear of someone else taking it. Also I know several people who put welcome signs and such on their doors and they were taken. To me it sounds like a bunch of thieves live there. Either that or there is just a few making the whole place look bad.
