John: I remember Joe. I very fondly remember the rolling hills as farmland that surrounded the camp. Someday I hope to drive around the area. I am sorry to hear that there is a subdivision next door.

John, I remember Joe very well. He was a very busy man at Camp especially on prom night when the power would always go out. I still remember Jo Jo. I recall the following " will joe fobes please report to the middle of the lake to retrieve Jo Jo". what great times we had!

I think you we in the bunk next to mine. Maybe I was in 9 and you were in 10. Remember Steve Schankel, Doug Rosen, John Kempner and the Spinner Brothers. I can't believe I came up with those names, what a trip down memory lane this site has been.

I see you are in woodbridge,nj. I grew up in Westfield and my family is still there. Maybe we can get together the next time I am down that way(i also mentioned this to Rich Spinner, who is still in contact with John Kempner and Mark gitlen)

Ok, I now have the pictures scanned to my computer for the summer of 1970. They are mostly of people, but still might be meaningful for some of you. I am not very computer savvy, so I am not sure how to share the pics with you all, short of having you send me emails and I can send them ( one page at a time of 6 each page). HELP...

Julie, your brother Al was my counselor in bunk 2 when I was a camper-worker. It was the year he was the leader during Color War. I can't remember the teams that year. Jamie would take us on one hell of a ride when we had to pickup the garbage and bring it to the dumps. Ask him if he remebers the "Ragasphere". Tell them I send my regards.
Bill
/Allie says he remembers but that it's too disgusting to think about(or at least to tell me about!) That's a shocker - my brothers associated with something disgusting!!

Julie, it was so great to see that you found this, and amazing you still remember Sadie Hawkins! By the way, you did catch me, or else our counselors had us go to some dance together.
Funny that our Dad's being close started our whole progression to Shawnee. I still remember those years. My brothers and sisters have been going back to the Wayne County Fair for the last few years, and it's exactly the same.
We want to do a reunion, maybe next year at the Wayne County, it's in early August.
What are you up to? Where do you live?
I live outside of Hartford, CT, married, 3 girls.

Sorry it took me so long to respond. I've started a new job fairly recently and things have been crazy. I live in Knoxville, TN. I'm married with 2 girls. One just started college at UT this past week! My other daughter is 12.

I think a reunion would be great. I wish my father was alive because he definitely would have organized it! Jamie says Teddy (Bland) has been reading the blogs and has talked about a reunion also. I'm not sure why either one of them haven't posted any comments!? I would say they're chicken, but I won't. If you get that website up, Jamie has a yearbook from Camp Shawnee! I don't know what year though. Those would be great pictures, etc. to post.

I was in Bunk 28 with you, Lyn, but don't remember the year. Barbara Stier was my best buddy. Who could forget the bats, cleaning toilets, changing the fly paper, hanging out in the rafters, and of course, playing jacks on the porch...also MAIL CALL, so exciting and the great packages of food from home...the "quad", aluminum face tanners, archery, rifle range, softball, water skiing. I hadn't even thought about Shawnee in years, then spoke with Barbara..yes, still friends after all these years. So I guess I wnet to Shawnee from the early 60's and was there about 6 years. Anyone remember what year we had the "Normans and the Saxons"? And oh, I went to Verona High School and was a cheerleader for the football team.

Guess my age is showing...Sue Miller was my counselor. I remember Bonnie and Arlene too, and Didi was really sweet to me when the kids were picking on me. I remember going to Evensons (sp?)in Verona and being so excited to see Jill Katz modeling on a bra box! A reunion would be fun! I can be reached at deborahcagle@hotmail.com. I work for United Airlines so hopefully I'll be able to get there.

I've also been at the camp currently at the site, Camp Bonim, and let it be known that the place is full of life! Most of the buildings have been repainted and over 300 campers plus 50+ staff call it home for 2 months every summer!
Yes sadly, it always looks kind of sad during the year, but come visit during the summer!

How wonderful to come upon this site. I was at shawnee from around '68 til the end, and went to Natame as well. Spent a great deal of time hanging around the stables with Eileen and Bobby. Robby, if you read this, thanks so much for starting this forum. I cherish my memories of camp and enjoyed reading these comments.

I am sitting in my Office at Drake University in Des Moines Iowa--- Hi Debbie, Lyn, Sue , Loriand all!

I was passing the time before I go to lecture listening to the election results-- I could not help bu remember the summer of 68 ( Bobbi Kennedy etc.) the election and the violence! We have come a long way!
I was surprised to see the posting that there is a camp on the sight of Shawnee--- I was there a few years ago and it was run down and the religious community had left! Are the postings that say there is a camp on the sight correct?

Hi Julie r-- say hello to Jamie and Al for me!
It is a small world-- my daughter Jen is living in New York and is dating a guy from Bloomfield NJ-- Went to Bloomfield high ( Joe Bogusz country!)

Happy thanksgiving to all!

Hi Izy,

Haven't check the posts in a while, but someone mentioned PA at work and it triggered me to look.
It's so great to see your name on here, I'll tell Eileen today. Your years at Shawnee were exactly ours, and then on to Natame.

Our family still talks about camp, and many of our conversations use Camp Shawnee as a reference point.

I'm working on a full website for "Camp Alum" and want to have a reunion at the Wayne County Fair this summer (early August). We've been going the last 5 years or so, and it's exactly the same.

Great memories of riding horses and even better ones of just killing time at the stables.

If you want to send an email to me, I'll forward Eileen's address, etc.
