Waxhaw running out of time for possible vote
“Five years ago, when this came up, we kind of jumped in head-first”
Town commissioners fretted Tuesday about a proposed referendum to allow restaurants to sell beer or mixed drinks, saying residents ought to be allowed to speak to the issue in a public forum.
Trouble is, time is short.
The deadline is Feb. 29 for asking the Union County Board of Elections to place referendum questions on the ballot for the May 6 primaries.
Waxhaw currently allows wine sales by the glass, but not beer or mixed drinks. The town has voted down beer and liquor by the drink as recently as 2004. Read more

It's a no-brainer! Keep the taxes paid by Waxhaw residents within Waxhaw and use the proceeds to catch up our waning water and sewer services and to beautify downtown. Let the pouring begin!
