Perhaps the problem in Mineral Springs that is fueling the crime is the leadership. Criminals are emboldened when the town leadership has serious criminal records of their own.

Tell those barefoot banjo playing toothless hillbillies to get off their porch and get a job instead of stealing from people...

The crime wave has been over stated to accomplish a hidden objective. The same council person pulled this same trick in 2002. She was arrested herself in 2004. Mayor Becker has spent time in the Union County Jail for repeat DWI. last count he had Four DWI/DUI's plus repeat offenses for DWLR as well as being arested in Florida by the FHP for cocaine hidden in his left sock while he was trying to help a 6 other thieves who were trying to use stolen credit cards to hire a wrecker to pull a stolen Bronco out of the mud. When asked by FHP Trooper Chapman what his relationship to the other males with the stolen Bronco and stolen credit cards was, the future mnayor stated " They called me to come down here and get them." Arrest # FHB70244,2/22/87, Broward County Sheriff's Office. Granted the future mayor was only 33 years old then and he was dodging another felony arest in Union City, NJ at the same time. Interestingly enough a 20 year old male was charged with traffic offenses in 2005 in NC and he called the Mayor to come and get him. When asked by the officer how he knew the mayor who is 55 he stated they met on the internet and he came from Florida to live with the mayor.
Wake up people the real crime wave is occuring in the ivory tower. The facts speak for themselves.

It appears that house break in's are the number one crime in Mineral Springs. Second is larceny from automobiles, followed by Domestic Assault, Communicating Threats, battery, and auto theft. Thankfully violent crime figures are low.

We had a break in in March of 2009. I was at home at the time and heard the glass break on the side door. I grabbed my .38 Police Special and stood in the hall at the ready. I decided that if anyone came down that hall they would die right in front of me. I'm a good shot. Before they could enter my house my neighbor drove up and they ran. He got a good look at them. There were 3 young blacks. They matched the description of suspects in several other break ins around Mineral Springs-Waxhaw area.
