Why would a mother refer to her only child as bubby? He isn't a bubby to anything.

Most families in that area have a "Bubby" and he is usually the younger brother in the family. However, some call their child "Bubby" as an endearment to young boy....why does it bother you so much? Does it really matter that he is her only child?

It is a family member. It sounds ignorant. Bubby implies brother. He is no ones brother.

I hate the term "bubby", makes me cringe for some reason. I think of some kid drinking Mountain Dew out of a sippy cup when I hear it. I only hear white trash use the term though.

Well I can tell you this, my son is "Bubby" to my daughter and his son is "Bubby" to him and I promise you, we are NOT white trash! And yea not a fan of mt dew in a sippy cup either. I think you need to just realize that you're not the nickname police and get over yourself. It's a nickname, plain and simple nothing more nothing less.

Seeing as it is a family member, you will need to get over it and look past it. She is going to call her child whatever she chooses and it don't sound like she's asking for your opinion either.

It is a term of endearment used primarily by hillbillys and white trash, it does sound and show ignorance. But you're in pike county! I worked with a hag who referred to her son as bubby. ICK, I wanted to smack her.

Well BUBBY, it looks like you are in Waverly, so I would assume you are in Pike County too. You don't hear us calling you white trash and an ignorant hillbilly. Isn't name calling just as ignorant?

Wow, clearly you can't read or understand the English language....BUBBY is a NICKNAME for a brother or young boy. What part of that said HUSBAND???? But if you're implying that your husband is also your brother then, yea calling him Bubby in Walmart and then french kissing him would be VERY endearing! I love ignorant people you keep the drama going. lol Maybe while you're at Walmart you could apply for a job instead of stirring up nonsense and drama on topix.
