I've heard through the grapevine that the whole staff was fired. Is there any truth to this?

Contracts not renewed for the entire coaching staff. Of course, after some reorganization, many will be rehired. I think the head coach is gone. Will someone move up (Crabby?, Ferdie?) or will they look outside the school district to hire a head coach? Kinda sad, cause there just hasn't been a ton of talent on the team for the past 3 years... This coach took the team to an undefeated season several years ago (yea, it was with great players) and three years later, the team didn't win one. But there hasn't been a ton of talent lately. I think everyone likes to think we are better than we really are, but the simple fact is we aren't. When we get into SOC play, we're up against better teams. Pretty simple. Feel bad for all the coaches and the kids!

Why did the same coach have an undefeated season 5 years ago? Why did those kids want to play for the coach then? What has changed in the last several years? Could it be that the current players, while good and decent kids, just aren't the greatest football players and the kids from the other schools are better, stronger and quicker? I really don't know why anyone is surprised that we haven't been doing well lately... It's simple, we don't have the talent we once had. We don't have the student leadership, speed, strength, size or experience. These players did not excel as they were coming up through pee wee and junior high (maybe a class, but not overall as a group). They have been average at best. And there's nothing wrong with that. That's the way high school sports are in a public school. We had a great basketball season last year and this year-- not so good. But we lost a ton of talent. It's not the coaches and it's not the current players. It's just the way it is.

Hopefully they move Crabby to head coach where he belongs.

And as far as basketball -- Robertson is horrible -- he had no idea how to coach Kretzer or coach in general!

Waverly needs better youth programs if they're ever going to get better in any sport.

Hopefully things will change. Like everyone whining over their kids not getting to play. And hopefully the community will come out and support the kids and the team instead of staying at home and griping about them not winning games. That would be awesome. But, guess what? Even if the whole staff is removed there will still be people moaning and groaning about something. My kid did not get to play. That kid gets to play because of who his dad is. And so on. If you could get rid of that crap and get the community to come together and support them like they use to, maybe something would change. Good Luck to everyone. And I think The Bolin Era was amazing!

Was this change in another attempt to get money for the new fieldhouse? Its gotta be difficult to sell the concept of new facilities when the team stinks.

The kids don't play because they don't won't to be cussed every time they turn around. They need to be coached. Big boys won't play cause their treated like poop. And then there are parents that don't want you yelling or running their kids to much . Football is not an easy sport to play and you have to be in shape. You can yell at a kid doesn't men you have to cuss them. Then you give them a pat on the back and tell him how to improve. If your in shape you don't get hurt..

Waverly has many division 1 players and the coaches played pro ball. We have the best players and coaches in southern ohio.

Well, I for one have to say it's about time. Most of these coaches have lost touch with not only the kids but the new age of football has passed them by. To much old school train of thought behind most of these guys attached to the Bolin era. Good for your School Board finally making the right decision. Now go outside and bring in someone that has NO affiliation with waverly what-so-ever and play some ball. I do wish all the older coaches good luck and congrats on all the past accomplishments. For the younger guys who might be retained and some should be, learn from the old don't continue with past practices. The kids enjoy playing for some of you use that and help get others to come out. Coaching can be accomplished correctly without the belittlement of an individual. We are all human and make mistakes noone wants to try or will learn anything without being taught properly.

I am not from Waverly, but I do know that a coaching staff makes a lot of difference. I loved football and played it as much as I could while growing up. I don't want to sound like I'm patting my own back but, I was a good player and could've went on to play on a higher level. I played through all levels until my junior year in high school. That's when the coach retired and my school hired a new coach and apparently he had something to prove. Against all the pressure from parents, teachers and family, I refused to play because of this idiot of a man. Now, I'm an old man and although I'm not one of those nostalgic idiots who constantly dream of the 'glory days', I know that I had a few more years of playing I sport I love. Now, I'm not sure of the circumstances that faces the students of the Waverly Football team, I know that a coach can cause a good player to turn away from a sport.
