i dont understand what the big deal is. your still open so as a paying customer they have the right to come in the resturant. i work in a resturant so i understand the feeling. but i also look at this way, if im not getting alot of hours this is a way of making up for that. like some other people said, if you dont like doing your job then quit and find another. somepeople are not even aware of the closing time becuase they are not from the area. most truckers or diners are driving thru town and the last thing they want is to sit in there car or truck and eat.

I used to work at an IGA as a cashier and we would all have to clock out at a few minutes before the closing hour (9 or 10 P, depending on the season). We would have people come to the locked door at 1 minute before the closing hour pleading they just needed a single item and the manager would let them in, and they would casually walk over and pull out a cart and start shopping. We were off the clock and we would be forced to stay until they were done shopping without being paid. Our manager (store owner) used to think it was funny.
i find that hard to believe since its against the law. if you actually stayed and worked off the clock then you deserve to be laughed at for not leaving since they could legally force you to stay

haha, i hate all you fat corporate republicans that say you pay my wages when your 3 dollars you just spent for your cup of cream and sugar with a few drops of coffee can't put a quarter tank of gas in my vehicle. you do not pay my wages, you do not run me, you are just a fat piece of shit who gets out of work at 5 sharp, driving your lexus suv home to your custom built house that is there for show and barely a home. it's also funny that the same group of people talks about how hard they work. i'm sure sitting on your cellulite-covered ass in a big comfy chair at a desk treating your inferiors like shit is just so tiring. i am stuck working as a barista until i have completed my final year of college and the only reason i don't have a cushy job like you is because i'm in the process of getting my degree. as for the pimply faced teenagers, not all of them are spoiled, most of them pay for everything themself with a few exceptions. now if you'll excuse me, i'm going to get my skinny ass to the gym in my prius going 30 miles an hour in front of your gas guzzler so i can get that full 60 mpg. LOVE YA
Sooo, after you get your "Degree" you will be able to sit on your skinny ass in a big comfy chair at a desk treating your inferiors like sh*t. Sorry you are Stuck working as a barista, but chances are good that you will be Stuck there for a long time past your grad date. And I seriously doubt that you could afford a Prius working in some coffee shop. LOVE YA, BUT I WOULDN'T TIP YA!

Restaurants could do like the bars do and give last call and lock the doors a few minutes before closing time.
That's a good one. I worked as a bartender. We gave last call and when it was time to close, if you hadn't finished, your drink got dumped. Can you imagine it.. Dumping plates of food?
The public can be very hard to deal with, but the best advice is to treat people like you want to be treated.
I get it

This goes both ways really. I try to be as merciful as possible with people in service. Tip well and be considerate. I know they are ready to go home at the end of the night. Plus they work a very hard demanding job.

On the other hand we have seen the total decline of customer service on every level from the service industry. Not as much from the individual worker as the organization. I mean it is a "if u dont like it go elsewhere" attitude now. That is not how these companies were built. I understand this isnt ur dream job. U will have much better in ur lifetime. But right now u are here. So use it to learn and become the best employe that u can. Who cares if ur job is scraping grease. Be the best grease scraper u possibly can and that attitude will follow u in life. Unfortunately rude people will come and go until they make rude a crime. This is a great chance to learn to deal with this kind of stuff. As the important jobs come the stress does not go away.

Hey, I have absolutely no problem with people who come in like 5 minutes to closing (unless they decide to stay for over an hour). It's the people who come when I am waiting on someone AFTER closing time and decide to sit their asses in the store. At the same time, we can't even start closing the store, let alone shut the doors to prevent other customers from coming in until they decide to leave. Should I have to put up with staying until 12:30 when we're suppose to be closed at 11 because my boss doesn't want to close the doors?

Thank goodness I quit that job.
