I was told there isnít an Invasion of Privacy statute in Hancock County or even in all of Mississippi, is this true?

For instance if someone puts up a 8-9 foot privacy fence around their yard and then puts a video camera in the front and back yard looking directly over the fence, Specifically aimed directly at my driveway/front door and back door/back yard. Is this even legal?

Put a mirror in front of his camera so he can watch himself.

I don't know how it will apply, but look up section 97-29-61 mississippi code 1972.

shoot his cameras out with a bb gun. everone has the right to privacy in their own home. file a civil suit against him for emotional distress and harassment.

If you are in your own yard and not exposing yourself to the public you wouldn't meet the criteria for indecent exposure. The idiot with the camera might call the cops but it won't do him any good. He won't be able to sign charges against you.

This sounds like a simple solution but it isn't. If you damage the cameras you can be charged with malicious mischief. If they are worth $500.00 or more you can be charged with felony malicious mischief.

Most security systems have remote recording so you could still be on camera comitting a crime.

Before Katrina two neighbors were feuding and one of them had a video camera aimed over a high privacy fence. Unfortunately the other was caught on video stealing the camera. He was charged with theft and trespassing and was convicted.

Be careful Adam, anyone can sign charges against anyoney for anything. All they do is go to Justice Court and file them. Then you are stuck with dealing with even more harrassment. Some people just need to smacked.

I agree with you BUT if someone signs criminal or civil charges, THEY have the burden of proof. I have seen naive citizens and cops sign charges without proof. They thought they would have their day in court without physical evidence. They thought they could just tell their version of events and throw it against the wall, so to speak and then see if it would stick. They had good intentions, they meant well and most people who were found 'not guilty' were so happy they didn't file any law suits against those who signed the charges.

It is difficult but not impossible for people to sue the local, state or federal government or the citizen who may have been telling the truth but had no evidence. There are seminars for lawyers to teach them how to file suit in cases like these.

I have learned the hard way that the court is no place for amateurs. Trust me, you will get creamed. I hate that it really his necessary to hire a lawyer. If you think you have a case, at least consult with a lawyer before you put your life, property and future on the line.

Some of the accused received large settlements.

If your speaking of Bayside Park in Hancock county; everyone needs cameras, with the crackheads, childmolesters, trailor trash that moves in and out of rentals every couple weeks.(Of 40+ sexual preditors registered in hancock co. over half are in bayside park !) Cameras keep riff-raff away, especially when they're up to no-good!

as long as his cameras have his yard in the foreground, there is nothing you can do, however if his camera only shows your yard , that is harrassment. But then you have to get a judge to sign a warrant to prove harrassment.

There is always something that can be done. Remembr, you will get no help fro the law in Hancock county, as they proect the criminals. if it were me, I'd go over to the neighbors and beat the crap out of him.....the cops won't do anything to you if they don't see you do it. Just be sure you're out of view of the cameras whe you do it.
The cops aren't required to do anything. It's up to the person who is being harassed or the victim of a crime to do something. If someone signs charges and a judge issues a warrant, the cops can go pick up the alleged perp. It's not up to the cops to fight your personal battles.

it is the responsibility of the Police to investigate when someone files a complaint. Instead, they jst sit on their fat a**es eating doughnus and drinking coffee. The only people who defend the cop are those that have something to gain from it.

Wah, wah, wah, you need to fight your own battles. The cops can investigate but the rest is up to you, especially if you want someone to go to jail. You need to get off your a** and sign charges. You have the burden of proof and BTW, most cops don't give a damn about donuts. They are more interested in caffeine than sugar. Cops eat donuts because they are being gracious since a lot of people give donuts to them for free. If you buy into that stereotype then you have no profiling skills and are easily duped.
