State's Attorney Michael Mermel seems to be a win at all cost political hack, who has no regard for truth or justice.

The lazy coppers and prosecutors simply want to clear the books - justice be damned!
Put the cops and prosecutors on trial and if convicted, lock them up and throw away the key to set an example for other lazy cops, prosecutors and judges.

You got to love our justice system. Judge Christopher Starck (as mentioned above) is STILL presiding over the 3rd trial (and will NOT recluse himself), EVEN AFTER the Illinois Appellate Court says he made enough errors in the first trial to grant a re-trial. You cannot tell me he was/can be unbiased in this case that cannot seem to be done correctly under his purview.
