Raccoon River trail plan gets state aid
Plans for a 33-mile extension of central Iowa's popular Raccoon River Valley Trail have received a financial boost from state officials, although supporters are still scrambling for money to complete the work.

The section of the Raccoon River between Dawson and Perry will always be most memorable to me. My father and I would often times canoe it. The trail sounds good, my father tried promoting that idea 30 years ago to no avail. Nearly $2ooK per miles sounds very expensive though. Instead of aphsalt, why not just mulch the trail, the pavement will get frost heaves and pot hole each spring anyways.
