"Sgt. Jorge Zamora said officers have experienced a spike in violence during the last couple of weeks. It's hard to say what's causing it, he said."

Really Sgt? Why is it hard to say? I'll say it for you then: A failed immigration policy and Latino communities that turn their backs on the actions of their own sons all across California.
And: Monterey County Gang Task Force is doing a heck of a job, turning up the heat, and pushing the hardcore bangers up to Santa Cruz County.
Are the masses starting to see what "social progressive" policies will get them in the long run?

Okay Latinos, now you can call me a racist, teabagger, redneck, neo nazi, from Arizona.(P.S. I wore red, white and blue on Cinco de Mayo!)

The only crooked thing here is your damm teeth.. WPD has some hard core hosome cops they try to do their job as best as they can.. the only problem not only do they have to deal with the gangsters, they also have to deal with their political bosses. The new chief of police manny solano....politics plays a big role in how the cops deal with the crime out their... they are not allowed over time, they are overoworked, and when people complain about the cops, the cops now have to face their bosses.. if cheif solano was so worried about crime and how the city is why doesnt he put more cops on the streets and take a bite out of crime...!!! so their........the only crooked cops are the political ones like manny solano and his beloved terry medina.. when it comes to political things they will hang anyone out to dry....lets just hang the gang members, illegal criminals and of course clean up the streets...stop worrying on how good u look with the political people , worry about how good u look cleaning up the streets !!!!!!!!!! Cal in ICE and deport all the gangsters to IRAq and let em fite over there...

I wish I didn't feel hopeless about the progression of gang violence in Watsonville and Santa Cruz. It seems we're finally waking up to policies and laws that have had repercussions leading to a huge decrease in the quality of life in our county. I have watched Santa Cruz change from a tourist town where I always felt safe, day or night on the beach and in any neighborhood. I enjoyed shopping in downtown Santa Cruz--the ambiance and the general feeling. In Watsonville, I used to sit with my children in the park after shopping at Ford's. Ask me if I go to either of those places now. Downtown Santa Cruz is full of homeless panhandlers and gang violence. Downtown Watsonville feels like you're in Mexico and I wouldn't sit in that park if you paid me. East Lake shopping center where I used to eat and shop is now a place where recent violence has occurred. It makes me sad to complain with no suggestions or solutions to this decrease in the quality of life in Santa Cruz County, and I do feel hopeless.

Enforce immigration law.

These people are invaders, and are breaking the law by being here without permission.

This is WAR.

End sanctuary status NOW - enforce immigration LAW.

CLEAN UP THIS MESS, THIS IS AMERICA.

If our leaders won't enforce THE LAW and clean up this mess, it's time we find leadership that will.

We are busy in Watsonville this weekend, no?

When will Watsonville get rid of the gringo name and be called something more appropriate to it's people?

Change name from "Watsonville" to "Manche de Sangre" (english translation - stain of blood)

I think the whole gang/crime issue in Santa Cruz County is complex and there's no simple explanation or solution. However,I do suggest one facet of this problem. I used to work for Watsonville Hospital and the statistics of undocumented, unmarried mothers who had babies who immediately became legal citizens and received medi-cal used to amaze me. I often wondered if both the social impact of this and the health-care fiscal impact of this would be felt in the coming years. I think we're feeling it.

Send in ICE to Watsonville. Better yet, send in the Marines! Send in the Army. Anything that will hunt down and kill every last one of them. We need to hunt down these evil domestic terrorists, like we do foreign terrorists. Bring in the drones. Bring in the tanks. KILL THESE F-ers! Gang members must be treated like the extremely dangerous evil terrorists they are. Willing to kill innocent people in a split second. There will be great celebration when we read that a dam- gang member is killed by police. The police around here are lame ducks. The criminals laugh and escape every time--these dam- gang members never seem to get caught... or better yet shot and killed on the spot by police. Come on SCPD/WPD, start taking some of these evil terrorists OUT! Brink out your AK47's, and start busting serious caps in their a--es!
I agree with you completely..except I don't think the cops are lame ducks..they have rules to adhere too...stupid rules as far as I'm concerned, but none the less... I would celebrate the killing of all these stupid cowards!! And all the meth dealers too!
I think these assholes should be shot on the spot too! We need to be more like Nevada and Arizona..these guys don't fool around..

Watsonville is reported to be 70% Mexican-Hispanic.

Watsonville is a "Sanctuary City" harboring many illegal aliens.

Watsonville is way over-represented in this type of crime.

Of course, this is all coincidental, and we all believe 2+2=7
