Not less crime, just less arrests due to budget constraints.

"Our work is paying off but we have a long way to go," Medina said. "We're not resting on our laurels."

"...resting on our laurels"! haha- good one! Yes- Watsonville has become a wonderfully safe city.

"Medina said high-profile, headline-grabbing cases may have given the community the impression that crime was on the rise. He said even he was surprised that numbers were down and "triple-checked" them."

Disagree. High-profile cases give the impression that gang activity is on the rise. Which is exactly the case, according to your stats. This is terrible news, and not something the chief of police should be bragging about. What is the major concern in Watsonville regarding crime? Gangs. And you just told us that they are more active. Do your job. Arrest gang members.

Great, they've succeeded in moving all of the crime into Seabright. It's becoming overrun with illegals.
What a marvellous success story.

where the heck did they get those statics from? lmao...... crime in watsonville is higher just that the illegals are scared to report any crime, and people are getting scared of gang members. IDK sometimes I feel like it's too late and Watsonville will turn into another "Salinas" because its residents won't do anything to try to save the city...... or at least whats left of it! lol

the things that make you wonder.....!

I think the crime rate fell partly due to the gangsters moving to areas that have more to steal, as of late the area is becoming quite decimated.

Watsonville is a shat hole and these stats are a joke. Don't believe this BS. Crimes just don't go reported and it's only going to get worse. Go for a nice walk some late evening around the Clifford Manor and see how long it takes before you get jacked!!! What area of Watsonville does the chief live in?

One person's gang is another person's social club.
Cemetaries are full of ex members.

That Sanctuary City policy protecting the illegal immigrants and their gang banging anchor baby offspring continue to cement Watsonvilles status as the official sheet-hole of the county! But hey, real estate bargains are great down in Watsonville if you speak Spasnish and don't mind investing in bullet resistant window panes!

some of them went home due to the lack of work...the others are dead...nothing has really changed if you factor in all possible reasons for the decline...

I'm sure police Chief Terry Medina means well but it's hard to take anything he says seriously. The Sanctuary City council has told the police to leave the illegal Mexicans alone. The police won't even take the illegal Mexicans down to the station for booking and fingerprints. The Sanctuary City council doesn't consider illegally entering our country to be a crime.

On May 8th 2,007 the Watsonville City Counsel voted on a resolution to make Watsonville a Sanctuary City by a vote of 4 to 3.

The city counsel members who voted for the resolution:

Manuel Quintero Bersamin
Oscar Rios
Greg Caput
Kimberly Petersen

I've always, and will always, feel exponentially safer in Watsonville than Santa Cruz. The statistics have proven that for years. It's nearly impossible to get mugged in Watsonville but the probability rises exponentially in downtown Santa Cruz. Most of us Watsonville residents have known this for years.

Why is it that we never see anyone riding around on that new $10,000 electric T-3 police tricycle? It is supposed to do the job of 3 "beat" cops.

We can't afford them nor the needs they bring to this country as well as the high birth rate of children that they cannot support or raise properly.
