Why charge by the half pound for meat? I know it says per 1/2 pound, but what if gas stations did that with gas?

Also, do you think they make mistakes in their ads to get more customers?

oops we goofed: 10 candy bars for $5
should have said: 5 candy bars for $10

No I do not think they make mistakes in their ads to draw in more customers, otherwise they would not correct the customer at the doors!

Sometimes they don't. Yesterday, nothing was on the door but they had a sign on the sauerkraut that I went to get.

Berkots isnt going anywhere.... Such fine quality in their meats will keep people coming back. And I agree Quality too will be fine as they have faithful customers and those who can not drive.

Seems like every week their is a sign on the door about the ad being wrong. think that they need to check their ad before they publish it. I hate that they do the 1/2 pound thing for their meat.

Berkots overcharges me and then made me wait in a long line to get a dollar back. So thanks for making overcharging me and then making me wait. Now I have a good reason to never go in that place again.

The main reason I do not go to Berkots is the ID policy. If they do not trust their employees ability to tell the difference between someone 17 and someone 40.....there is a problem. I also do not like the "OOPS......We messed up on our ad" BS that happens EVERY week!

Well.....now that I think about it.......if they are not smart enough to proof read their ad's maybe they can't tell if someone is 40 and not a 17 year old trying to buy smokes.

I also heard a few years ago that they had a "manager" type guy that worked there that was showing some high school kids how to huff redy-whip.

Do you really think high school kids need help learning what houshold products get you high? Please. I'd be willing to bet that half(if not more) of the "kids" that work at Berkots are already drinking and partying. And you know what? SO WHAT? Everyone that is normal in this town did it. Even if it was nothing more than swiping a few of dad's beers from the garage fridge.

Actually, there isnt too many "kids" at Berkots. Alot of the people working there (minus a few stockers) are of age. I believe one cashier may be under 21.
As far as the manager rumors, I can not say I have heard anything of the sort. I do know there is a new store manager as of last year who is very upstanding and responsible.
And in all stores that use automated checkout registers, its not the cashier or the store which would over charge the customer, but rather how its in the system. I use to work there and I know the cashiers truly try hard as far as I know, but mistakes do happen - a cashier is not able to do a refund, only the main service counter.

Lastly, the I.D. Policy is to protect them and everyone else. Its all too common to find minors purchasing beer so rather than taking that chance they require cashiers to I.D. everyone to prevent any "mistakes".

You can always state any concerns you may have to the manager and I am sure they try to resolve them.
Quality and Berkots are both amazing stores and I hope neither of them hurt from the new Wal Marts arrival.

who ever thinks that berkots has the best meat seriously needs to go shopping at other places, i admit they have some good sales on meat sometimes but you are taking a chance, bought a pck of ribs one time, looked fine until we on rolled them and the inside was gray and smelled horrible, and if you do buy the meat its best to not freeze it when you get home because most of it has been frozen and thawed. i for one am looking forward to super walmart..better prices, berkots is a store that is intended for "higher income" towns. just hope hope the new walmart isnt managed by the same managment as the old walmart, or it will suck.

I buy meat at Berkott's St Anne grocery and Papineau locker, NEVER Quality. Quality's meat is rotten, smells and no thank you! I do like Quality for other things but also like Berkott's for some things. Truthfully I hope both Berkott's and Quality stay as I will not shop at Super Wal-Mart for groceries, they are too expensive! Quality has been here forever adn will stay, hope Berkotts survives too!

I shop both places, find Berkott's to have friendly cashiers. However, it seems that like most places, it takes longer to check out then it should. Meat I purchase anywhere but Quality. Sorry, I just do like believe their source is as good as it was 8 - 10 years ago. Also the guy who is in charge lives in Indiana, and you never see him purchasing meat, just beer.

Every time I buy Berkots meat, the bones are broken, or its rotten. Just the other day I had to throw out 4 lbs of chicken cause when I opened the package it smelled so bad. It seems rare that it is good meat
