Father, son charged with fighting sheriff's deputies

SYLVAN BEACH - A father and son were charged with assaulting Oneida County sheriff's deputies Sunday evening on the Barge Canal pier at Sylvan Beach, deputies said.

I dont believe $20000 is enought for scumbags like these. It should be 100k and they should be in jail for 5 years.

I was an observer to the incident and should make note that I saw a number of sheriff deputy's not only intentionally provoke the father and son, but additionally handle the matter in an extreme unprofessional manner. I am totally disgusted with our law enforcement and now have a totally different view of the people who should protect us.

I also was an observer - I saw the officer RUN up behind one of the men and grab him from behind. I too would have instinctively pulled away as the man did. That is when I saw two officers topple over the younger man. "Throw away the key" must be an idiot who obviously jumps to conclusions without knowing the facts. I feel sorry for you having to make it through life on your jaded perception. Apparently you haven't kept up on the news with regard to "scandals" being uncovered involving our police officers. Worse off, if you worked in the line of work I do, and saw what the "real world" was actually like, you may reconsider who you call a scumbag. This was a complete embarrassment for those officers of all rank who actually where their badge on their heart and not on their sleeve.

I was present when this entire incident occurred, and watched a grown man and his son mouth off to, provoke and attack two Oneida County Sheriffs on the pier. Sheriff Middaugh was there when this incident happened as well, and he didn't have ANY issues about how this was handled! I am amazed to read that people who weren't even present have the audacity to say that the Oneida County Sheriffs acted out of line in any way- which they obviously didn't... the charges stuck didn't they?

Don't even let these morons get to you, Gary. It is just typical of the mentality of this region. THEY can't be wrong, so it must be the cops are all crooked! The charges stuck, and I wouldn't be surprised to hear that these two have been involved in more incidences since. You could videotape them and post it here but some people still wouldn't be convinced (or helped). Just write them off-- they're not worth it.

it went to county court and they pled to assault with probation I believe but don't quote me. They did not get off easy from what I recall cuz I was in court that day.
