MASSENA - Massena experienced several suicides in a very short period of time in 2011.

www.mpcourier.com/article/20120601/DCO01/7060...

The growing suicide problem is seen beyond Massena.

2010: 14 (ave age 47)+ 5 accidental lethal intoxication of medication

2011: 19 (ave age 44)+ 4 accidental lethal intoxication of medication

The Massena Police Department has seen a significant increase in mental health Incidents and emergency mental health pick-up orders as well:

1993-1997 averaged 16.4 per year

1998-2002 averaged 23.0 per year

2003-2007 averaged 43.4 per year

2008-2011 averaged 62.5 per year

People would rather kill themselves than live in Massena? Shocking.

no you insensitive ass, it doesn't boil down to "massena sucks". 62 attempted suicides a year is startling and sad. maybe you're lucky enough to have never known anyone thats killed themselves. why don't you find something to do other than troll topix to harass suicide prevention. what is YOUR mental problem?

"no bro", I think "cool story bro" only read the first sentence of my post, if he read the third sentence he would see that it is beyond Massena, he read the first line and made a comment after the first sentence. He is not looking beyond that...clueless!
"cool story bro" made a very insensitive remark, suicide does not exist only in Massena, it does not exist only in St. Lawrence County, it does not exist in only this state it happens everywhere...

SUNY Potsdam is holding another walk to raise awareness
That was the direction of my post, to raise awareness, not for comments from people like "cool story bro"

It was not a story "cool story bro" its statictics, its facts and its reality, so why make a comment if you have no incentive to give to a cause that may actually affect people you might know.

No Massena will not be holding a walk it would be nice if they did. The nearest one will be Potsdam rain or shine, preregistration ended today at noon but you can also register before the walk that will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday at SUNY Potsdam’s Barrington Student Union, Barrington Drive. Parking will be available in Lot 20.
Massena has however, opened a Walk in Center for suicide prevention located at the town hall on Thursdays from 12:00-4:30
Hope this was helpful.

The little boy who was murdered was not a suicide it was a homicide...This was a community fundraiser to raise awareness for suicide prevention and there was also a community fundraiser for his homicide too, either way they are both for a good cause, they are both a community effort by people who care! To those who took part in both, GOD BLESS YOU! We all have to stand up for something...STAND UP TO CANCER, STAND UP AND WALK for a cause that can bring justice, answers, awareness, cures, prevention!...Stand up-speak out, walk for a cause DO SOMETHING . org!

You make good points. Also, it raises the question as to whether some "suicides" may actually be homicides. Given the rate of domestic violence and many tv programs showing various methods of homicide (offering a sort of How-To-Do-It...commit homicide and making it look like a suicide, etc), possibly serving as a basis for the increase in "suicides Just a thought. How deeply are these assumed suicides ever investigated? Is there an automatic autopsy when suicide occurs or is it sort of hit and miss based on suspicion?
