When will Waterloo HS football become a powerhouse?

Lol never. They can be as good as ever but will never compete with the Cahokias or marions. Those schools choose between great athletes to good athletes. Waterloo will always have good to mediocre players and maybe a great athlete every five years. There's no telling what's to come but from my observations they're too far behind the majority African American schools.

Great coaching can do wonders for any program. For example explain why other highschools like Columbia, Mater Dei, have successful programs without blacks athletes.
I would guarantee that if Mater Dei head coach was in Waterloo, we would have a heck of a program to brag about.

You can't have a high-powered team with low-talent people. And sometimes the weakest link in the chain sets the limit on what the group as a whole can achieve.

Couldn't be they play in small school divisions?

Could the Mater Dei coach be successful somewhere he couldn't recruit? Could the Columbia coach?

You can't compare the catholic schools or Cahokia or ESL to anyone else. Public schools outside Cahokia and ESL have to play by the rules, which means you have to play those who live in your school district.

What is being said is in no way the truth. There is absolutly no reason that Waterloo cannot and should not have a powerful program. What it takes is dedication from the athletes. I was on a state championship team that was not blessed with great athletes. We worked for every win that we got. My three years of varsity we lost a total of three games. State runner up, state champion and undefeated and lost third round of playoffs. It takes commitment from the kids and their parents. You have to work harder than every other team that you play. That starts the day after the last season ends, weight room, conditioning and learning. They can do it and with the the AD I have no doubt that they will. He understands sacrifice, you don't wrestle at the level he did without that understanding.

My son is a senior and has played varsity since he was a sophmore. He is in the weight room 3-4 times a week and takes weights as a class(coaches request, mom doesn't like that) they have dedication and heart, we need more plays and not just by the same kids play after play after play. I like Rose but my kids played football since he was 5 or six, adjust and try something new!

I see more kids around town striving to be the next Tony Hawk instead of striving to be on the next good Waterloo football team.

waterloo is in a bigger and way tougher confrence than columbia why dont people realize that when columbia grows some balls and comes up to the big leagues ill give em some credit and its not the coach its the kids and its not about winning highschool football is a life changing experince. coach rose is a great mentor for these kids and helps them to become young adults really thats what it is all about so f off

Balls?? If/When Columbia's enrollment increases, then they can "come up to the big leagues". It make just as much sense to say that Waterloo needs to "come up to the big leagues" and join the Southwestern Conference to receive credit?

Columbia's enrollment is easily at the number that Waterloo's was when it jumped up to the MVC. If you look at the enrollments of the schools in the MVC, Waterloo quickly sorts itself to the bottom. Triad's enrollment is nearly double that of Waterloo's. I played for Coach Rose. I hated and still hate Triad. We played them hard every time, even broke my leg in a game against Triad. Mascoutah now has kids coming from Scott AFB, real true D-I athletes. I am not trying to sound like an excuse maker, but the argument of Columbia not jumping up out of Cahokia Conference b/c of enrollment is rediculous. Why would they, they have it too nice down there. And for the guy mentioning the Mater Dei coach, wake up. They are a parochial school playing in a much smaller conference. When they play Waterloo and beat them every year for 5 years, your argument is heralded.

Waterloo is just not that athletic of a town compared to many others in Southern Illinois. Sure they produce a few great athlete every once in awhile, but as a whole Waterloo is not a fertile breeding ground for athletes.

Please get back on here at the end of the football season and tell me how far 3! 4.6 runners will get this team. You could find 3 4.6 runners at a lot of schools by visiting just 1 study hall.

4.6 40's? That's pretty good for ends and linebackers. Kids these days should be stronger and faster than when I was in high school. We had 4 or 5 guys running sub 4.4 40's... Need to get them out the gym and off the roids...

huhuhu... you are an absolute idiot. I hate to be mean, but someone that runs a sub 4.4 40 has never ever walked the halls of WHS. you little kids and your wild imaginations are almost comical. The number of running backs at the 2010 NFL combine that ran a sub 4.4 40 was 2. Their names are Jahvid Best and CJ Spiller. In the 2009 there were 0 RB's that ran sub 4.4 40. And in 2008 there were 4 guys that ran that fast. There names are Anthony Aldridge, Jamaal Charles, Chris Johnson, and Darren McFadden. BUT you are saying there were 4 or 5 guys running that fast at WHS. YEAH RIGHT. The guy that mentioned there being 3 guys that can run a 4.6 on this years team is and idiot also. They might be in the 1000 lb club, but they couldnt run a 4.6 in their dreams. You all have no idea how fast that is. Waterloo will once again have strong, hard hitting players. Thats what we are known for. Incredible speed, now that is not WHS, that kind of speed isnt even at East St. Louis.

I think that anyone can read this thread and find out why Waterloo's football program is sub-par. Excuses, excuses, excuses. When we stop making excuses about why everyone else has success but us, we might start looking for a way to be successful.
