"Bus012" my daycare is eligible for bus service but because where we live we are inelgible he cannot ride the bus even though the bus will be stopping at my daycare picking up other children. So tell me how would you feel.
"Mom" NO I have not received a letter yet.
QUESTION-Was the Lighthouse daycare on the news in regards to bus transportation changes???
What time is the board meeting on Monday and where are they held??
That is correct. Plus, if you live in the ineligible zone your child will not be allowed to ride the bus home with a friend. So if they ride the bus after school to Grandma's house or you are working late, they cannot receive a bus pass. And even if you are eligible to ride the bus, you will no longer be issued a bus pass to ride a different bus home with a friend. So again, even if you are a stay at home mom and you are in the hospital, you are going to have to find someone to be at your house to meet the bus, find someone to pick them up at school, or find someone on your route to have them go home with.

Just because it is not a state mandated law does not mean that they shouldn't be providing the service, especially when everybody is paying the same property tax rate to the schools regardless if they are eligible or not. Since when did we get to the point of only doing the VERY LEAST we LEGALLY had to for our children and thinking it was okay. Parents need to work, kids need to be safe. There are other ways.

Bull, where do you propose they come up with the money? The STATE keeps cutting the transportation payments and the schools have make decisions based on the revenue coming in.

Do you really think your property taxes support all the schools are trying to do for kids? Do you have any idea what it costs to educate one child? I would bet it is in the range of $8-$10k per year. How much are your taxes?$4-$5k per year. How many kids do you have? Do the math. I'm sure the schools would prefer to keep bussing all students but the schools are broke because the state is broke. And, honestly, our tax rate is not that high when compared with other districts.

The board meeting starts at 6:00, but the open (public) part of the session starts at 7:00. The meeting is held at Gardner.

Maybe the people on welfare that aren't paying real estate taxes and are home anyway should be the ones driving their kids to school and back since they don't have jobs anyway. And maybe then, us working middleclass can get to work on time!

The "teachers" that were at registration were not being paid ... they were volunteering.

Waterloo can't do what you are asking because of one simple fact. Teacherís time is more valuable than the parentís time. Case in point, please think about the hour break between 4 and 5 that the teachers are taking for registration. Most parents are trying to rush home from being at work all day and they have a couple of hours to register their kids. I am not saying they do not deserve a break by any means. Perhaps they should work in shifts or something or consider running a 5-9 time slot to accommodate the parents. It is kind of amazing that the typical work day for most people is 7 to 4 or 8 to 5 but more time is set aside during most people's normal work day instead setting aside more type after parents are off work. I know that would inconvenience the teachers but they have had most of the summer off so I think they can handle it.

Well, it's probably not going to be a very popular statement, but before they cut much needed services for the working population they might look at cutting extra-curricular activities and also trim back the sports program. Nobody wants to cut anything back, but before cuts are made that could affect people's jobs or a child's safety, it might be considered.

And obviously, every single politician who is in office right now in this state should be voted out - starting with the November elections.

I really think they should ask parents if there are any who are not using the bus that would voluntarily give up their reserved spots and maybe clear up enough spaces to allow the other kids to ride. I read the other posts, but even if some buses are crowded, others are not and if you are eligible they do reserve a space for you "just in case" because they legally have to - unless you sign away your right. Just the number reserved for driving high school students is staggering. My kids are grown now but when three of my kids were in high school and drove everyday, they could have ridden the bus anytime they wanted.

You also have administrators that are still receiving raises. A couple of years ago when they cried budget cuts and cut teachers, the asst principal at the high school received a raise well over 10,000 a year.

That's the last I am saying on the subject. Sorry for being so long winded. I just think this is wrong.
